November 20 is the anniversary of one of the most tragic incidents in the history of independence of Azerbaijan.
17 years have passed since “Mi-8” military helicopter was shot by Armenians over the Garakend village of Khojavend region on November 20, 1991, APA reports. Dozens of Azerbaijani statesmen and journalists died as a result of this incident. State secretary, Tofig Ismayilov, Prosecutor-General, Ismat Gayibov, State Counselor, ex-minister of internal affairs, Mohammad Asadov, MPs Vagif Jafarov, Vali Mammadov, deputy prime minister, Zulfi Hajiyev, head of the Department in the President’s Administration, journalist Osman Mirzayev, deputy foreign minister of Kazakhstan, Sanlal Serikov, journalist of the Azerbaijan State Television, Ali Mustafayev were among the killed people. 22 people perished as a result of the catastrophe.
