Vesna Crnives: Khojaly Tragedy Should Never Recur A seminar devoted to the theme “Youth and Media” dealing with the role of photographs in social changes was held in the Education Center in Baku on November 4. Slovenian photographer, Prof., Vesna Crnives, who presided over the seminar, first came to Azerbaijan in 2002 on the invitation of the Photographers Union.
After she visited refugee camps and witnessed hard living condition of refugees and IDPs, who were driven out of their native lands, she decided to acquaint the world community with the hardship of innocent people who became internally displaced in their homeland.
This is her fourth visit to our country. Vesna Crnives was in Azerbaijan in 2006 and 2007 and every time she learned new details about the life of refugees and internally displaced persons, the Khojaly tragedy, and arranged exhibitions of the photos, taken here, in different corners of the world.
The goal of the current visit is to form a team capable of uniting young people and support them in their activities to provide assistance to refugees and IDPs and inform the world about them through photographs.
Mrs. Crnivec wants to arrange a project which would not only spread peace throughout the world, but could enable Azerbaijani youth to have close and mutual contacts with children from every part of the world. V. Crnivec said that Young Friends’ Association of Azerbaijan is functioning in Slovenia.
The goal of the Association is to unite the world in fighting violence to prevent forever recurrence of massacres like Khojaly.
