Ali Hasanov: Activity of World Food Program in Azerbaijan is great gift for the improvement of our IDPs’ welfare
Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov, chairman of the State Committee on Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, told about it.
Ali Hasanov expressed his regret that, some MMs don’t going to the main point of the matter, state stopping of the UNO World Food Program’s functioning in our country as invisible thing, as international organization’s turning away from Azerbaijan demonstratively. There are persons who accuse the organization; they say that, leadership of the country is unaware of the matter. But what is happening?
Let me state beforehand that, the World Food Program’s functioning to stop on June 30, this year, in Azerbaijan. Since 1994 the World Food Program is in Azerbaijan. Activity of the organization finished in 1999 indeed. Our national leader Heydar Aliyev appealed the World Food Program to prolong their functioning in our country. The appeal was taken into account and they decided to stay in Azerbaijan some three years. The great leader appealed the organization again, in 2002. Functioning period was prolonged till 2005. The same year, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received leadership of the World Food Program when he visited Italy (World Food Program’s Headquarter is in Rome). The issue was discussed and the Program stayed more three years in Azerbaijan.
The Program is functioning 15 years in Azerbaijan. 165.000 ton food assistance, amounting $115 million, was made to IDPs during this period. Azerbaijani government estimates the World Food Program’s activity very high, we see off the collaborators of this organization with gratefulness. Because, in no conflict zone UNO structures had so continuous and long term functioning. We consider the activity of the UNO World Food Program in Azerbaijan a great gift for the improvement of our IDPs’ welfare. This gift will be estimated on a state level.
