Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire 1250 times last year, so the tension in the contact line of troops reached the highest level within the 14-year ceasefire regime.
As a result, 18 Azerbaijani military were killed in actions with enemy. According to APA’s monitoring based on the materials confirmed by Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, the ceasefire was violated 700 times more last year than in 2007. It is notable that in 2007 ceasefire was violated 550 times in the contact line and 220 times in 2006.
The ceasefire was violated mostly in June, July, August, September and October 2008, correspondingly 176, 150, 153, 185 and 153 times. The military of Azerbaijani army were killed mostly in Karabakh front, in actions in Agdam, Tartar, Khojavend and Fizuli direction.
Besides, two servicemen were killed as a result of mine blasts in the contact line of troops and in the military units located near the front line. The ceasefire was violated mostly in the regions of Agdam (228 times), Tartar (211), Gazakh (175), Khojavend (141), Goranboy (140), Fizuli (134) and Tovuz (124). The enemy forces fired on the positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and settlements in Gedebey, Jabrayil and Dashkesen regions as they did every year.
According to the monitoring results, in September-October 2008 the enemy forces intensively violated the ceasefire mostly in the north front – on Armenian-Azerbaijani borders in Gazakh and Tovuz regions. Gazakh region was distinguished for the number of the ceasefire violations. To note that, nine villages of Gazakh region are under the Armenian occupation at present. Armenian armed forces were firing on the positions of Azerbaijani Army from these occupied villages, as well as from Ijevan, Berd and Tavush regions of Armenia.
Armenian forces were more active in Goranboy, Tartar and Agdam regions of Azerbaijan in June, July and August, but in October and November – in the south front, in the direction of Fuzuli and Khojavend regions.
The monitoring results show that Armenian armed forces were more active in the first decade of March. Over 36-hour intensive battles took place on March 3-4 in the direction of Goranboy and Tartar regions. Mortar launchers and heavy armors were used during those battles.
Kokha Nabi, Agdam and Alibayli villages of Tovuz region, Mazam, Gizil Hajili and Bala Jafarli villages of Gazakh region, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Garakhanbeyli, Alkhanli villages of Fuzuli region, Yusifjanli village of Aghdam region, Gapanli, Goyarkh, Borsunlu villages of Tartar region, and Tapgaragoyunlu village of Goranboy region of Azerbaijan were most fired by Armenians.
