Azerbaijan works to include Afghanistan-Iran-Nagorno Karabakh drug transit route in UN list

Azerbaijan is working for including of Afghanistan-Iran-Nagorno Karabakh drug transit route in the UN list, said Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Commission for struggling Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Trafficking Ali Hasanov, APA reports.

Hasanov said there were three routes of drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Azerbaijan: Afghanistan-Iran-Azerbaijan, Afghanistan-Pakistan-Iran-Azerbaijan and Afghanistan-Central Asia–Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan.

“We are working to include the fourth transit route – Afghanistan-Iran-Nagorno Karabakh in the official documents of UN. This route is out of the UN statistics. This is a transit for drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Europe and CIS countries”.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Nagorno Karabakh, which was under the Armenian control, was used for drug plantation and transit, as well as for terrorist camps. “Azerbaijan raised this issue for many times, but unfortunately the international organizations couldn’t resolve this problem. It is ridiculous that Armenians don’t allow the international organizations, which have a mandate of monitoring in those areas, to enter the territory of Nagorno Karabakh”.

Hasanov said Azerbaijan had not so tragic drug problem in compare with other countries, but it can not make it to relax.
