Jabrail, Fizuli and Gubadli – 15 years under Armenian bondage

The round table, held by Public Association for “Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” together with “Association for Civil society Development in Azerbaijan” at the conference hall of “Caspian Plaza” Business Center on August 22, 2008, was devoted to this subject.
Chairman of PA PRMIDPA, professor Nadir Abdullayev made an opening speech. Editor of “Voice of Karabakh” (Golos Karabakha) newspaper, Gadir Nasirov reported on the subject.
Employee of Fizuli region’s Executive Authority, Azer Hatamov, chairman of Warrior Veteran’s Association, Seymur Shirinov, representatives of Gubadli region’s Executive Authority, Razim Aliyev and Habil Aliyev, chairman of Yasamal regional department of Great Patriotic War Veterans’ Association, deputy director of Human Rights Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Musa Musayev, member of Karabakh Freedom Organization, Nizami Hajiyev, employee of Jabrail region’s culture and tourism department, Hasan Hasanov, deputy chairman of Warrior Veteran’s Association, Nizami Rza and others made speeches at the round table.
It was emphasized that as a result of occupation of Jabrail, Fizuli and Gubadli regions 15 years ago, about 230 thousand inhabitants were driven away from native lands and, inhabitants of Jabrail had to settle in 57, inhabitants of Fizuli – in 61 and inhabitants of Gubadli – in 47 towns and regions of the republic.
Occupation of these three regions resulted in the devastation of settlements, historical and cultural monuments, all infrastructures constructed for a long time turned into ruins. It is sufficient to underline that 262 settlements, 242 schools, 263 medical, over 450 cultural, 110 industrial and agricultural establishments, 4 museums and tens of thousands of museum exhibits, hundreds of construction and mounting organizations remained there and were destroyed by Armenians. Armenian armed gangs destroyed over 300 historical monuments situated in these regions.
Besides ravaging natural resources of the country, destroying forests, flora and fauna of that zone, the occupation was accompanied with people’s massacre. 1085 people were killed during military operations in those regions; thousands of people were wounded and became invalids.
Azerbaijani government fulfilled definite work improve living condition of refugees and IDPs, set up several settlements provided with all necessary facilities in Bilasuvar and Fizuli regions. As a result of these measures, campsites were abolished which put an end to the life in food wagons.
The event participants protested against aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan and stated their concern regarding indifference of international organizations.
The round table participants made an appeal to the UNO, European Union, OSCE, heads of the OSCE Minsk Group member-states and the International Red Cross Committee.
