Press Release of the round table meeting in the theme “Khojaly genocide: crime against mankind cannot be without punishment” held by Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan and Public Association for “Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” in February 24, 2010
On February 24, 2010, Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan and Public Association for Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan held a round table in theme “Khojaly genocide: crime against mankind cannot be without punishment”. At the beginning of the meeting the chairman of the Public Association for “Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” professor Nadir Abdullayev requested for a minute commemoration of the victims of genocide. The professor mentioned that, 18 years ago, terrible genocide was committed to the peaceful people of Khojaly by Armenian military unions which consisted from the people who belong to Armenian nationality and with the support of 366th regiment of former Soviet Army. In that terrible night this city was burned and ruined completely. According to the statistics 613 person also 63 children, 106 woman 70 old aged persons were killed cruelly and through unbearable torture, 8 families completely killed, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of the parents; 487 persons wounded, also 76 children were wounded and became disable, 1275 persons were taken hostage, 150 person were missing.
This tragedy which cannot be drawn an analogy with another tragedy and wildness happened in the eyes of all mankind at the end of XX century. Today Khogaly inhabitants who live temporarily in 48 regions of Azerbaijan believe in fair solution of Nagorny Karabakh conflict, repulse Armenian agression against Azerbaijan, restoration of territorial integrity of the country and hope this day is not far away. The speaker again noted that the sinners, organizers and executers of the tragedy will get their worthy punishment.
Then the turn of speech came to Gadir Nasirov, the chief editor of “Qolos Karabakha-Voice of Karabakh” newspaper. The speaker grounded his speech on facts about Armenian savagery. The need of intensifying work on lightening Khogaly genocide in world press was also emphasized.
Akif Nagi, the president of “Garabakh Liberation Organization” said that everybody should do his best in sake of making the bloody tragedy be eternalized, progogation over the world and suggested several proposals on this issue.
At the event Yavar Azimov, the representative of Khojaly region executive power, Aygun Bayramova, the president of “Voice of Garabakh” Public Union, Shamil Sabiroglu, the president of “Propogation of Khojaly genocide” Public Union, Mugalib Mahmudov, chief consultant of scientific-analytical section of Ombudsman Apparatus, and others gave a speech emphasizing that in spite of passing 18 years from Khojaly genocide it is not approved in international level, criminals were not punished. Because the crime cannot be without punishment!
At the end of the event an appeal was adopted to United Nations Organization, Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, current chairman of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, parliaments and governments of foreign countries, leaders of coutries which preside over OSCE Mins Group.
