Roundtable on the theme “20th anniversary of the last deportation of Azerbaijani Turks from the present Armenia – Western Azerbaijan” has been held on November 26 with the initiative of the Union for Democracy. Researcher Parviz Samadov spoke about the history of deportation and said that the acts committed against Azerbaijani Turks in the past 200 years were genocide, APA reports. Chairman of the Great Azerbaijan Party, Elshad Musayev said the deportation was one of the national problems of Azerbaijan. Acting chairman of the Azerbaijan Liberal Party, Evez Temirkhan accused the authorities, opposition and intellectuals of not informing the international community about the fact of deportation and said that the status of the Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia should be determined. “These people should be given a special status in order they could demand their personal property from Armenians in future”, he said.
But according to Professor Firudin Jalilov settling the Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh could solve the conflict in favor of Azerbaijan.
“We met with Abdurrahman Vazirov who led Azerbaijan at that time regarding this issue, but he protested against it and as a result, the number of Azerbaijanis reduced in Karabakh”, he said.
Other speakers – Leader of Azerbaijan National Independence Party, Etibar Mammadov, chairman of Freedom Party, Ahmad Oruj, MP Panah Huseyn, journalist Mahal Ismayiloglu, political scientist Gabil Huseynli underlined the importance of determining the legal status of the Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia as well.
