Turkish Prime Minister: official position of Azerbaijan and Turkey on Nagorno-Karabakh issue remains unchanged

The official position of Azerbaijan and Turkey on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue remains unchanged, Turkish Prime Minister, Rejep Tayyip Erdogan stated in the press conference held on February 18, Turkish news agency “Ihlas” informs.
Erdogan stated that the news about changes in Turkey’s official position regarding Nagorno-Karabakh issue isn’t true and the news of such a kind is spread by Azerbaijan’s opposition pursuing a political purpose. “We continue our work over the Nagorno-Karabakh issue adhering to the same position as Azerbaijan”, Erdogan added.

The conflict between the two countries of South Caucasia started in 1988 over territorial claims raised by Armenia against Azerbaijan. Until December 1991, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojaly. But in 1992-93, Shusha, Khojaly and seven surrounding districts of Nagorno-Karabakh were occupied too. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and hold fruitless peace talks under the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the USA until today.
