Written statement regarding 60th anniversary of Azerbaijanis’ deportation from Armenia to be submitted to the PACE The written statement regarding the 60th anniversary of deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia will be submitted to the PACE. The statement prepared by member of Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, Ganira Pashayeva, underlines that the rights of tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis, who were forcedly driven away in 1948 from their historical territories have been violated by Armenians for 60 years, APA informs.
The document states that thousands of people are longing to return to their native lands, grow old with this dream and die. “All the historical-cultural monuments belonging to Azerbaijanis are destroyed in Armenia. The rights of all the nations deported in the USSR during Stalin’s regime were restored after his death. Some nations were allowed to return to their native lands, to their territories during the USSR time. Among the deported nations only the rights of Azerbaijanis, who were driven away from Armenia, weren’t restored and this fact makes negative the image of the CE declaring its priority the protection of human rights”.

The document emphasizes that during collapse of the USSR Armenia continued its policy to establish mono-ethnic state, flatly condemned by the EC, and drove away all the Azerbaijanis from their historical forefathers’ lands in 1988 carrying out ethnic cleaning policy. “The rights of Azerbaijani refugees driven away from Armenia in 1988 have been violated for 20 years by Armenia”. The statement says that besides flat condemnation of deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia in 1948, the EC should put pressure on Armenia for the recognition of these people’s right to return to their native lands.
It should be reminded that at least 20 MPs from 5 countries should sign this document to get it adopted as a PACE statement. There is no problem connected with it, rather many MPs support Azerbaijan’s fair position in the PACE, G.Pashayeva stressed.
Another document, which will be also delivered at the PACE session, is connected with the graveyard found in Guba. A short video film has been prepared regarding this issue, G.Pashayeva stated. The film reflects the visit of the PACE President, Luis Maria de Puch there together with chair to the Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov.
