3 015 812 sq m area was inspected and cleared of mines and unexploded ordinances (UXO) in Azerbaijan in May, 2013. Press service of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told APA that 1 634 UXOs and 10 antitank mines were found and disarmed. 484 specialists and 118 assistants, 6 mine clearing vehicles and 36 mine dogs were involved in the operations.
226 338 258 sq m area has been cleared of mines and UXOs by ANAMA up to now. 682 323 mines and UXOs have been disarmed.
The agency is carrying out mine clearing operations in Aghdam, Aghstafa, Fuzuli, Berde, Terter, Goranboy, Yevlakh, Khizi and Kirdaq Mud Volcanoes in the territory of Absheron district, as well as in Guzdek settlement of Garadagh district of Baku.
ANAMA special purpose operation group continues mine clearing operations in the former Sitalchay shooting range in Khizi region. 237 400 sq m area has been cleared and 70 UXOs disarmed up to now.
Two Mine/UXO incidents were recorded in May, 2013.
