“US also should deliver aid to the people displaced from occupied lands as it delivered to those living there,” Spokesman for Foreign Ministry Elkhan Polukhov told APA while commenting on the $8 million assistance offered by the U.S. Congress to Nagorno Karabakh.
According to Polukhov, Azerbaijani side is expecting the US to coordinate with Azerbaijan the steps taken in connection with such programs and inform the official Baku.
“We have always raised and are raising the issue on delivering aid to the Azerbaijani community. Discrimination is inadmissible. Equal assistance should be delivered to the people living in the occupied territories and the people displaced from the occupied lands,” he said.
To the question “Can the step taken at the time when progress was made in the negotiations on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict influence this process?” Elkhan Polukhov said:
“The official position of the US on the conflict is that it recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he said.
The US has offered $22 million aid to Azerbaijan, $41 million to Armenia and $8 million to the separatist Nagorno Karabakh regime in FY 2010.
