A two-day international conference “Refugees in the Muslim World” at the level of foreign ministers of the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held on May 11-12 finished its work in Ashgabat.
A final declaration was adopted at the conference. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the 9th paragraph of the Ashgabat Declaration was dedicated to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The document says that in its 38th session, the OIC Foreign Ministers Council adopted resolution 10/38-POL condemning the aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan.
“We recall the latest OIC resolution No.10/38-POL on the Aggression of the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted at the thirty-eighth session of the Council of Foreign Ministers and other relevant OIC documents. In this context, we express our deep concern over the plight of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and population expelled from the occupied territories in and around Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and over magnitude and severity of these humanitarian problems. We call for enabling the Azerbaijani refugees and expelled population to return to their homes in safety, honour and dignity and reaffirm our total solidarity with the support for the efforts undertaken by the Government and people of Azerbaijan to this end. In this regard, we strongly demand the full implementation of the relevant OIC, UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions”, the document reads.
