Ancient Maiden Tower in Baku

It seems, it disturbs the Armenian nationalists

In Yerevan still make plans of capture of Baku

“The voice of Armenia” caused a stir again. This time “lineal heir” of Yerevan “Communist” in Russian, the newspaper, on whose anniversary in edition welcomed personally Serzhik Azatovich Sargsyan, gave the floor to a certain Sergey Ghukasyan who undertook “to adapt” for the Armenian territorial claims… history of the Maiden Tower. The description which mister Ghukasyan gives to this most valuable architectural monument on the pages of “Voices of Armenia”, in it can become a plot for not so politically correct joke: “In the Baku center behind a strip of Primorsky Boulevard the tower from a darkish stone with nose unusually acting forward flaunts. That Maiden Tower: as if the permanent guard of the Old city of Icheri-Sheher on border of the left centuries and the ultramodern world, such ghost from the past”. Then draws a categorical conclusion: “It, perhaps, the most surprising ghost because it exists and is perceived. But it is even more surprising that this ghost exists under the thought-up name, with the uncertain and far-fetched biography”. It appears, mister Ghukasyan up to the depth of soul revolts that “The Maiden Tower duplicated as “an outstanding historical and architectural monument of the Azerbaijani architecture of the XII century”, nowadays, owing to new scientific and archaeological opening, applies for earlier origin – as the outstanding creation of the Albanian culture dated almost by the I century of our era! “To whom and for what purpose it is necessary?”- pathetically exclaims Mr. Ghukasyan.”He is compelled to recognize that “the towers taken from the basis the analysis and age of construction solution gave a weighty reason to professor S. Ashurbeyli to claim what exactly such limy solution was applied in Servitude constructions – the capitals of the Caucasian Albania” that a tower where is more ancient, than the gravestone of the XII century forming the basis for dating found in its wall. And then starts the main thing for what, actually, and “the Voice of Armenia” addressed to history of the Maiden Tower. According to the version of mister Ghukasyan, “already the first year or decade the Azerbaijani scientists and politicians try to transform history, to build the version about “lawful” legal continuity of the Soviet, nowadays Islamic Azerbaijan from the Albanian and Median kingdoms, without realizing that from outside it as is ridiculous and absurd, as an origin of Azerbaijanis from “azeropiteka”.

Indisputable works of antique and medieval historians specify that at the beginning of history on an equal basis with Assyrians, Midyans, Armenians, and Albanians in Transcaucasia Azerbaijanis “didn’t stand in a queue!” It would be time to understand it and to leave fruitless attempts of transfer of ethnogenesis of own nation in an extreme antiquity, creating in the afternoon doubtful myths and appropriating foreign architectural heritage, – the learned lesson of Ghukasyan diligently goes on. – It is known that Semiramida had never a rest in the Babylonian gardens allegedly broken by it, and great pyramids in Egypt and the temple of St. Sofia in Istanbul are constructed not by present inhabitants of those places, and got to them from the ancient. So it turned out and with the Maiden Tower – what can you do?” It is so simple. There were no Azerbaijanis in “Transcaucasia” – and all here! Proofs? What proofs if this “installation” corresponds to “the Armenian business”?

It is excessive to remind that, proceeding a gnash tooth concerning Icheri Sheher, the Maiden Tower, etc., in Yerevan can’t realize simple truth: the present capital of Armenia has no “kernel”, the historical center with the building developing within several centuries. The reason is known also: the present capital of Armenia is the Azerbaijani city of Yerevan, the capital of the khanate of the same name, and the capital of Armenia it became as a result of the concession made in 1918 from ADR authorities (The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic – edi.) at negotiations on territorial differentiation. But as its historical “Turkic and Muslim” building didn’t match in any way a capital role of “ancient Christian Armenia”, in its most barbarous way destroyed. Under a knife of bulldozers in twentieth or thirtieth walls of Irevan fortress, a mosque, the public baths, many other most valuable historical monuments went the khan palace. And especially, there is nothing such, that it would be possible to compare to the Maiden Tower. Which in article can be called, of course, “ghost”, but from it won’t cease to be reality, let and inconvenient.

Only this “historical and architectural envy” – is not the only explanation. Where it is more important – and where it is more dangerous! – another: in Armenia since 1918 there are annexation not only Karabakh plans, but also Baku. This purpose, we will remind, organizers of “March Massacre” pursued: having untied genocide of the Azerbaijani population, to attach Baku with its oil fields to Armenia. Especially as in the city there was very active and well armed cell “dashnaksutun”, in “The Baku commune” dashnak possessed solid influence… Then, we will remind, approach of National army of Azerbaijan with support of the Turkish forces under command to Nuru Pasha didn’t allow these plans to come true. But in the Armenian environment about them didn’t forget. And now again diligently untwist idea “Baku without Azerbaijanis”. Let’s remind: other “scientists” are already ready to argue that Armenians, say, were in the Soviet Azerbaijan “the state-building nation”, and unfortunate analysts like Levon Melik-Shakhnazaryan openly make approach plans to the coast of the Caspian Sea. And the Maiden Tower really disturbs such plans. Especially as in reality it is difficult to declare it “ghost”.

Serj Sarkisyan chattered again

The offender – president of the country-aggressor again opened his dirty mouth. He did it this time at the session of the Soviet of collective safety of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Being inspired by his “friends”, he again poured his anger to address of Azerbaijan.

Yes, at the mentioned assembly of CSTO the president of Armenia Serj Sarkisyan again demonstrated his open hate to Azerbaijani side. But he had to compose something to cover his own crimes. Touching the problem of instability in Southern Caucasus, Sarkisyan said: “Serious danger for safety in the region is the destructive approaching of Azerbaijan to the problem of regulation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict… Even the agreements which we had gained – creation of mechanism of investigation of incidents and challenge of snipers, is drowned by official Baku”.

Trying to hide his fascist essence and real face, Serj continued his speech like a sage-peace-lover-accuser: “We are sure that the only and uncontested way in plan of solution of the existing conflicts is negotiations. We think that restoration of military activities after the gained achievements of the sides would disturb the norms and principals of the international law, this is the most short-sighted way to new wave of violence, hate, bloodshed. Problems shouldn’t be solved in this manner, they would just be more difficult in such case. Azerbaijani society educates the generation in the atmosphere of xenophobia and intolerance. As a proof to my words I can show the fact of formation of hero’s image on coward and craven killer who was extradited to Baku by Hungarian powers … In this case, murder of Armenians isn’t considered as crime in Azerbaijan from now. And in the 21st century, in the country – member of UN Security Council! Azerbaijan continues its militarist politics… President of Azerbaijan openly states that Armenians all over the world are enemies of Azerbaijan, and Erevan which will celebrate its 2800th anniversary is an ancient Azerbaijani land…”. The president of Armenia expressed his discontent to his partners in CSTO: “Our colleagues in the organization don’t defend the position of Erevan in the conflict with Azerbaijan… It is hard to explain the situation when our numerous appeals to partners – associates in CSTO about preventing the attempts of Azerbaijan for holding unilateral formula stay without answer”, – Sarkisyan said with open offence.

If all these were said by any Armenian who hasn’t any relation with Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, then we wouldn’t get so angry. But all these were said by the president of the aggressor country who is one of the beginners of the conflict, the person whose hands were washed up with blood of thousands of innocent Azerbaijanis including hundreds of children, women, old people that he affirmed himself in his interview to Thomas de Vaal, the British correspondent: “Until Khojali events, Azerbaijanis thought that they could joke with us, they thought that Armenians weren’t able to raise hand to civil population. We could break this stereotype”.

Talking about the danger for safety in the region, Sarkisyan addressed completely everything typical for Armenia to Azerbaijan including the destructiveness in negotiation process as if Azerbaijan occupied and kept territories of Armenia under control and tried hardly to keep the existing status-quo. The person talks about “education of young generations in atmosphere of xenophobia and intolerance by Azerbaijan” in whose country it is impossible to find any Azerbaijani among 500 thousand local habitants of 1988 year. About the problem of “formation of a hero’s image around the name of coward and craven killer” where he talks about the Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov who was legally extradited from Hungary to Azerbaijan and was pardoned, and also about that “murder of Armenians isn’t considered as a crime in Azerbaijan from now”, I’d like to remember Serj that Armenian killers of thousands of Azerbaijanis in Armenia aren’t punished and even they strengthen day by day, people put monuments for them and even they can be presidents. And the clear proof of this moment is he. Sarkisyan takes offence his colleagues vainly as you know they have information about aggressive activities of Armenia although their last “friend” in the organization is N. Bordjuzha.

About the subordination of present territories of Armenia to Azerbaijan, then it isn’t just a word as Serj ironizes, but there are enough documental proofs of the mentioned fact, and now, we just advise the president of Armenia to look over the historical map published in the article of our newspaper that was prepared in 1705, 1780 and 1795 years not by Azerbaijanis, but British intelligence and took from Alexander’s library in Egypt.

So, how much the president of Armenia chattered, this will change the real essence neither of S. Sarkisyan, nor his country- aggressor.

UNESCO made a decision

And what further?

At last, after 24-year term from the conflict beginning between Armenia and Azerbaijan, one of the most authoritative international organizations – UNESCO made a decision on protection of cultural values in occupied territories.

Let’s note that the same decision was made by this organization at the seventh session of committee passing in Paris on protection of cultural values during armed conflicts at the initiative of Azerbaijan.

In this document the obligation about providing the report on protection of cultural values is reflected in occupied territories by the occupying countries, and also possibility of sending technical missions on occupied territories.

Along with it, according to the decision, the secretariat next year has to prepare the detailed document on implementation of the relevant provisions reflected in the Hague convention and in the second protocol to it, on protection of cultural values in occupied territories for its representation in committee.

The document accepted by committee put a basis for more extensive discussion of a question of protection of cultural values in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and creations of certain mechanisms. It should be noted that this decision with discontent was met by Armenia and a number of members of the committee supporting it, but the majority of members of the committee approved an initiative of Azerbaijan and supported future steps on this matter. Certainly, this discussion of UNESCO and acceptance here decisions is important in respect of expression of the relation of the international organization to the fact of aggression which brings along with human losses, also irreplaceable loss to cultural values. At the same time it is necessary to express regret: this move of the called organization appeared very much the late step for the known reasons about which we will talk below.

At first we will remind approximate black statistics of the damage caused to cultural values of Azerbaijan by groundless armed aggression of Armenia against it, begun with territorial claims and accompanied full-scale war and mass bloodshed.

As a result of aggression of armed forces of Armenia against Azerbaijan in occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven areas round it remained historical and cultural monuments – 13 of universal importance (6 architectural and 7 archaeological), 292 state values (119 architectural and 173 archaeological), 330 local values (270 architectural, 22 archaeological, 23 gardens, parks, monumental and memorable monuments, 15 models of decorative art). At the same time there were in occupied territories 22 museums with the exhibits which were stored there over the 120 thousand, 927 libraries with 4,6 million book fund, 808 clubs, 20 palaces of culture, 4 state theaters and 2 concert halls, 31 mosques, 9 historical sheds, 10 recreation parks, 4 art galleries, 85 music schools, 103200 pieces of furniture stock, 5640 musical instruments, 481 film projectors, 20 movie cameras, 423 video recorders, 5920 couples of national men’s and women’s clothing, 40 sets of loudspeakers, 25 voluminous and 40 smallness attractions.

We tell only about cultural values and in general, but after all each monument, each exhibit, and each subject – rare, irreplaceable, invaluable wealth of any other nation. At the same time caused to Azerbaijan and its people the Armenian aggression the damage isn’t limited only to damage to cultural values, it more large-scale, is boundless and irreplaceable. Than it is possible to fill or how it is possible to estimate human losses from the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict?

Let’s return to a question of too late acceptance of UNESCO of the decision of protection of cultural values in occupied territories which very dissatisfied still had Armenia and its supporters. At first we will explain why we call late considered for our country especially important a step of the called international organization. Yes because for two decades the aggressor country left nothing from the cultural values which have remained in the occupied zone relating to Azerbaijan. How will protect UNESCO what already isn’t present?!

It is clear why Armenia and its “brothers” were dissatisfied with adoption of the above decision: after all it is contrary to aggressive act of this country. By the way, what matters, it was pleasant or not Armenia the above-named decision of UNESCO or any decision of other international organization? It all the same doesn’t obey any such documents. Unless are there to this day as inutile pieces of paper known resolutions of the UN Security Council or other numerous documents accepted by that UN and other international organizations? After all there were to the above-named decision of UNESCO on protection of cultural values in occupied territories various international legal acts on this subject, including the Brussels international conference of 1874, IV Hague Convention Respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land of 18 October 1907, the Treaty on the Protection Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments (Roerich Pact) in 1935, the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict of 1954 and others.

And any international organization, including the UN, never dared to grab by a throat Armenia – this international criminal and to punish it “merits”. Here and UNESCO made a decision. And what further?

For what then in general these organizations and their acts are necessary?!

Editor’s column

Multifaced U.S.

or should we expect objectivity from the U.S.?

We already for a long time are witnesses of double-standard approach of cochairmen of the Minsk Group (MG) of OSCE in mediation concerning settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. The U.S., one of three cochairmen of MG, too didn’t deprive of this illness according to the diagnosis a double-standard.

And to us, and the whole world is known the official position of this country: The USA recognizes territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and don’t recognize a separatist mode according to the name of “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”. But what about the reality?

Absolutely differently. Every year official America allocates along with Armenia separately financial support to the called separatist education, the American cochairman of MG together with colleagues from Russia and France each time during visit to the region surely happens on reception at “president” of “NKR”, friendly shakes his hand and discusses settlement questions, as well as with Armenia and Azerbaijan, congressmen and other high-ranking officials of this country unceremoniously visited Khankendi (Stepanakert), etc. Yes of course, even if the U.S. has a representation of “NKR”?

It appears, and all this is not enough. At the beginning of December of the passing year in Washington, already in the Capitol where the Congress of the USA “sits”, the 21st anniversary of “independence” of separatist “NKR” was celebrated and known homebrew lambs of the Armenian diaspora Frank Palone – the democrat congressman from the State of New Jersey, Ad Roys – the republican congressman from California were organizers of action together with the Armenian National committee of the U.S. At ceremony other homebrew lambs – the head of committee of foreign affairs of the House of Representatives of the USA Brad Sherman, congressmen Adam Schiff (about him separate article took part in this number – edi.) also David Chichillin, Eliot Endzhel, Jackie Speyer, Anna Esho. As guests there was “Minister of Foreign Affairs” of “NKR” Karen Mirzoyan, the ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Washington Tatul Margaryan, the representative of an unrecognized regime in Washington Robert Avetisyan, and also representatives of the Armenian American diaspora.

All present on action, American pro-Armenians spoke about support of the USA to “NKR”, swore that “will fight very much for a right cause of the gained independence Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh”, took under criticism attack to Azerbaijan which, you see in any way doesn’t want to give a piece of the land to extreme “people of Artsakh”, pardoned the officer Ramil Safarov, under pressing of the Armenian diaspora unfairly condemned on a life imprisonment in Hungary, which would have the vital value in case of a military resolution of conflict disagrees on implementation of flights on Yerevan-Hankendi. And so on, and so forth.

Well, it is clear that representatives of official circles of the USA, including their embassy in Azerbaijan, and nearly without hesitating, will tell that the position of some of Palon and to it similar congressmen that doesn’t reflect, and at all doesn’t correspond to an official position of Washington which always supported observance of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. And parallel to this States, of course, also support also a nation principle of self-determination. That is, the USA, as well as other cochairmen, supports both principles which are completely opposite each other, support both an aggressor, and the victim. And this is called double-standard.

Multifaces policy of the U.S. in reality. Whether in that case we should expect objectivity from them in settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict?

Elkhan Suleymanov: “The occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and the enlightenment of the world community about the realities on its serious results constituted the main direction of my activity”

The interview of Elkhan Suleymanov, deputy from Shamakhi district, member of Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE, Chairman of Azerbaijani Delegation to the EuroNest PA to APA.

– During the year, hearings and conferences regarding Nagorno Karabakh were held in the parliaments of several countries on Your initiative…

– Yes. But I’ve to clarify one moment of concern regarding your question. As an average Azerbaijani, the wording of “Nagorno Karabakh conflict” worries me. I would like to bring to your attention that this wording does not reflect the essence of the tragedy our country has faced, and has an obscure and vague meaning. It is unclear whether there existed the facts of armed aggression and occupation. Such a wording does not embrace the essence of the tragedy and any information regarding the invader and the party exposed to invasion. Nagorno Karabakh conflict that Azerbaijan faces is not a conflict, but an armed aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan and the occupation of our territories by Armenia. Armenia carried out military aggression against Azerbaijan, waged a war against our country, and occupied the Azerbaijani territories. Armenia is an aggressor, and Azerbaijan is a party exposed to aggression.

As for your question, I have to note that the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and the enlightenment of the world community about the realities on its serious results constituted the main direction of my activity. The hearings and conferences were held in Belgian, Italian, Finnish, Spanish, and Andorran Parliaments regarding the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and its serious results.

– Could you please give more information about events held in the parliaments of different European countries?

– The Azerbaijani side attended the events in the parliaments of the mentioned European countries with large delegation. Azerbaijan was represented by Mr. Ali Hasanov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of State Committee on Deals of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Ms. Sevinj Hasanova, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, MPs Mr. Fazil Mustafa, Mr. Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Mr. Zahid Oruj, Mr. Faraj Guliyev, Mr. Jeyhun Osmanli, and Mr. Fuad Muradov. And the host countries were represented by MPs from those countries, public and political, as well as scientific and state figures.

I would like to particularly stress that the main goal of these hearings is to achieve that national parliaments demand the implementation of the decisions adopted by international organizations regarding the military occupation. Thus, the failure to implement the decisions of the international organizations may be actually evaluated as their support to aggressive Armenia. And the struggle against the aggressor means to serve the mankind and humanity. Therefore, speakers in the hearings repeatedly highlighted the facts that the resolutions were adopted on Nagorno Karabakh problem by UN Security Council and General Assembly, European Parliament, PACE, OSCE, and other international organizations, and that the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territories, including Nagorno Karabakh region, by Armenia was stressed in these documents.

In my speech, I noted that the occupation war of Armenia against our country resulted in great moral and material damage to Azerbaijani nation, and according to our calculations, the material damage to Azerbaijan in the result of war amounted over 431.5 (four hundred thirty one billion and five hundred) US dollars for early 2011. Mr. Ali Hasanov, Head of State Committee on Deals of Refugees and Internally Displaced People, Ms. Sevinj Hasanova, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, and Members of Parliament delivered a comprehensive report during these events.

– You’re the member of PACE Monitoring Committee from Azerbaijani Delegation. The final report on our country prepared by the co-rapporteurs was discussed and adopted in the meeting of Monitoring Committee in December. How do you evaluate this report and what could you tell about the debates in the Committee meeting?

– In my opinion, here it is worth to draw attention to the assessment of Mr. Pedro Agramunt, one of the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee regarding the report on Azerbaijan. In his interview to BBC Azerbaijan, Mr. Pedro Agramunt characterized the report as “an objective and balanced document”. As for the commitments of our country before the Council of Europe, he stressed that “Azerbaijan implements all its commitments and develops in the right direction… Political situation improves in recent years.”

Generally, I appreciate Mr. Pedro Agramunt’s assessment and the presence of a special section in the report regarding Nagorno Karabakh problem. Thus, so far this problem was dealt with only one provision in previous reports. So, the co-rapporteurs considered their mission regarding the priority issue for Azerbaijan as implemented and in fact, ignored this problem. But this time they attempted to objectively express their position on the problem.

Nevertheless, I proposed to add the next sentence to the resolution part of report during discussions: “The Assembly regrets that negotiations have not led, so far, to any tangible results, that related PACE, European Parliament, OSCE and UNSC resolutions, condemning the military occupation have not been implemented till today and that the rights of about one million Azeri citizens are being violated since twenty years”. Despite serious protests by the members of Armenian Delegation and some MPs with anti-Azerbaijani position, my proposal was adopted.

One of the significant points for us in the report was about bans on mass demonstrations and protests in the center of Baku city. As the co-rapporteur Pedro Agramunt says “Azerbaijan has some problems in this sphere. However, this issue concerns not only Azerbaijan, but also all European countries. They all have problems in this sphere”. Delivering speech regarding this issue, I proposed to rewrite the paragraph on freedom of assembly in the following wording: “find a compromise solution to allow protest actions in some areas of Baku city center, complying with security requirements and being acceptable for both the organizers and the authorities”. Finally, this proposal was also adopted.

Thus, the discussion of the report on Azerbaijan in the Monitoring Committee was tense, but successful for our country. I should note that during discussions Mr. Samad Seyidov, chairman of Azerbaijani Delegation has also made great efforts to achieve successful result for Azerbaijan on the report.

-We regularly face discrimination, bias and double standards against our country in international organizations, as well as in the Council of Europe. What is the reason for that?

– Yes, we regularly face discrimination in international organizations against Azerbaijan. Even some forces in European institutions obviously take an anti-Azerbaijani stance regarding some issues and attempt to put political pressure on our country. Demonstration of biased and impartial position by PACE against Azerbaijan on the issue of political prisoner has become more distinct for more than ten years.

It is interesting that the situation on human rights and freedoms in other CoE Member States is not better compared to Azerbaijan. There is not any restriction on internet access in Azerbaijan. Online newspapers and online television is widely used and citizens benefited from recent opportunities of information technologies without any restriction. Despite the above-mentioned facts, the PACE claims that only Azerbaijan out of 47 Member States limits the freedom of speech and has political prisoners.

In its turn during that period, Azerbaijan kept on stating that PACE did not have criteria applicable to all Member States demanding legal definition of concept of “political prisoner”. Finally, this institution acknowledged the absence of criteria on “political prisoners” and on 3 October 2012, the report on the definition of political prisoners was discussed in PACE. After long and intense discussions, this report was considered adopted according to the Rules of Procedure with 89/89 votes. I would like to specially emphasize that the forces beware of not getting the quorum during the vote, achieved adoption of criteria of political prisoner with anti-Azerbaijani campaign full of bias and slander.

I would like to stress that the issue of political prisoner has always been a tool for CoE and other international organizations to put political pressure on this or that country and this situation continues. I would like to state that Georgia has been presented as a model country in the sphere of democracy and in ensuring human rights until recently. After the elections, those who saw the change of political conjuncture in Georgia and those who were praising the country for its achievements in the sphere of democracy and human rights, claimed on 12 December Monitoring Committee meeting that there were 200 political prisoners in that country. Very interesting, it was stated that national parliament cannot interfere with the work of courts. Then I took the floor and told that we were CoE MPs and asked how we can interfere with the work of courts, while it was only the exclusive authority of European Court of Human Rights to define violations of human rights?

I consider it necessary to mention one more issue. None of the resolutions adopted by international organizations is being implemented. Though the OSCE Minsk Group has been functioning for 20 years, no result has been achieved so far. In some institutions some politicians, MPs and officials show obvious indifference. According to the PACE resolution 1416 on the problem adopted in 2005, the Sub-committee on Nagorno Karabakh was set up. The Armenian side boycotts the work of the Sub-committee and in fact, it doesn’t function since 2006. In other words, Armenia ignores its commitments before the Council of Europe and the Council of Europe remains silent. I would like to stress that it is not a coincidence that the resolutions adopted by the international organizations regarding the occupation of Azerbaijan territories are not implemented. As evidence, I would like to show the response letter addressed to me in December of this year by the EP President Mr. Martin Schulz. He writes: “I hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will overcome their difficult conflict over Nagorno Karabakh”. As you can see, the President of the European Parliament charged aggressor Armenia and Azerbaijan, which was exposed to aggression, with the responsibility of the solution of the conflict and thus, once more confirmed the indifference of international organizations, also that of the European Parliament to this issue.

Undoubtedly, the fact that some forces in European institutions have an anti-Azerbaijani position, present Azerbaijan as an anti-democratic country which violates human rights in the international area, try to damage our international image with various means, and attempts to exert political pressure on Azerbaijan, has one major purpose: the aim of such a campaign against Azerbaijan in the Council of Europe and international organizations is to achieve that massive and gross violation of rights of over 1 million Azerbaijani people by aggressive Armenia, at the same time the restoration of their violated rights remain beyond the attention of international community. These forces deliberately present Azerbaijan as a country having more serious problem in the field of democracy and human rights, thereby trying to keep our country, as boxers say, in “knockdown” position, to distract our mind by constantly making us deal with these “problems” and in the real sense making us forget the fact of Armenian occupation. Thus, the international organizations assist the aggressor Armenia by giving Armenia, which captured Irevan, Zengezur, Vedibasar, Goyche, Garagoyunlu and other Azerbaijan lands a century ago and officialized them as “ancient Armenian lands” the opportunity to prolong the occupation of Nagorno Karabakh territories by Armenia 20 years ago for other 20 years, then also to officialize this occupation and unite these territories to itself. More precisely, the international organizations very delicately, secretly, but strongly help the aggressive state by using time for the benefit of Armenia. I believe that this time the Azerbaijani society will not allow the aggressor to realize their next insidious plans. International organizations have to think about this.

– A few days later 2012 comes to an end and new 2013 is beginning. What would you like to wish to your voters?

– I sincerely congratulate my voters with the upcoming New Year and wish them health and happiness. I know that each Azerbaijani looks forward to the liberation of our lands. Like each Azerbaijani, I do my best to bring this day closer and I believe that this day will come.
