‘Today, the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a serious threat to peace and stability in the region’, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said addressing the South Caucasus Forum in Baku, APA reports. He stressed that Azerbaijan wants to ensure solution to this conflict within the framework of the international law: ‘We want to liberate our territories in accordance with the international law’.
The Head of the State reminded that Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 adjacent regions are under occupation: ‘The UN has 4 resolutions regarding this issue. These resolutions demand the withdrawal of Armenian militants from those lands. Unfortunately, those resolutions have not been fulfilled for more than 20 years’.
The President noted that however, Azerbaijan will remain committed to its policy and the strengthening of the state will be continued: ‘We will continue economic and political reforms. The more we are powerful, the quicker we can resolve the conflict’.
The Head of State characterized relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan as the best example of regional cooperation in the South Caucasus: ‘Unfortunately, the relations with the third state in the South Caucasus – Armenia are strained. In order to achieve a normal level in these relations, Armenia must stop aggressive policy in the region’. /APA/
