Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister meets Norwegian Ambassador

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met Norway` Ambassador Erling Skjonsberg and incoming Country Director of Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise in Azerbaijan John Gjertsen.

Mr. Hasanov praised relations between Azerbaijan and Norway, saying his country is interested in developing the bilateral ties.

Touching upon Armenia–Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Deputy Prime Minister said Armenian aggression caused occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territories and emergence of 1.2 million refugees and IDPs.

Mr. Hasanov noted that thanks to purposeful policy carried out by President Ilham Aliyev Azerbaijan had gained more support for its just position on the dispute, with its international influence growing.

“Unfortunately Armenia continues to ignore the resolutions of the reputable international organizations on the conflict, and non-constructive stance of Armenia blocks possible resolution.”

The Deputy Prime Minister provided an insight into what President Ilham Aliyev and international organizations had done to improve living conditions of refugees and IDPs.

“Some 82 modern districts and residential areas have been built for refugees and IDPs and more than 180,000 people had their living conditions improved.”

Mr. Hasanov lauded the activities and projects carried out by Norwegian Refugee Council and Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise in Azerbaijan.

Mr. Skjonsberg said Norway in many cases supported Azerbaijan’s right stance in international events.

The Ambassador said he would increase efforts to contribute to finding a peaceful solution to Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during his stint.

Praising current state of Azerbaijan–Norway economic ties, Mr. Skjonsberg expressed confidence the bonds between the two countries would further develop.
