U.S. Utah state adopts citation on Azerbaijan

Both houses of the Utah State Legislature adopted Official Citation Honoring The President and Citizens of Azerbaijan on February 13. Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. told APA that Utah Senate President Wayne Niederhauser read the citation at the session of the Senate and co-author of the document, Senator Gene Davis presented it to Azerbaijani Ambassador to the U.S. Elin Suleymanov. Suleymanov expressed his gratitude to the members of the two houses, authors of the document and said that it would pave the way for further development of the relations between the State and Azerbaijan.

 

 

Senator Davis said Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of the United States in the region and underlined that Azerbaijan has a historical traditions of statehood, though it is a young state.

 

The citation says that Azerbaijan that regained independence with the collapse of the Soviet Union is the first country to have democratic traditions in the Turkic world and Muslim East and one of the first countries to grant suffrage to women. It is emphasized that the United States and Azerbaijan share common values regarding democracy, human rights and universal freedoms.
