The issues related to military education, organization and holding of command staff meetings, providence with equipment and weapons were discussed between Azerbaijan and Iran, Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces, General Hassan Firuzabadi said during his meeting with Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov on April 15.
Iran’s defense industry contributes to providing Azerbaijan with products for relevant purposes, according to Firuzabadi, Iran’s Fars News agency reported.
Defense ministers of the two countries have repeatedly held meetings and cooperation programs have been implemented between the two sides over the past ten years, the chief of staff of Iranian Armed Forces said.
“We are ready to cooperate with the neighboring Azerbaijan which is a Muslim country.
The cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the military sphere aims to support the development and stability of the two countries,” Firuzabadi said.
The establishment of multilateral and friendly relations with Muslim and neighboring countries is the priority of Iran’s foreign policy, according to the general.
“The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Iran created an opportunity for rapid development of relations between the two countries in various spheres,” Firuzabadi said.
The chief of staff also said that Azerbaijan’s defense minister became familiar with the weapons and equipment produced by Iran during his visit to this country and the two countries reached certain agreements in this connection.
The two-day visit of Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov to Tehran started on April 14. Earlier, he met with Iranian Defense Minister, General Hossein Dehghani and held discussions on the development of bilateral ties.
