Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has commented on some Armenian media reports about holding of a trial of Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov, who were taken hostage by Armenia. The Foreign Ministry’s press service said the illegal Nagorno-Karabakh regime has no legal basis to hold a trial of Azerbaijan’s citizens and a decision to be made by this bogus court can’t have any legal force, APA reports.
“Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov were taken hostage while visiting the graves of their relatives. They have undergone tortures based on a fabricated process of investigation, and Hasan Hasanov was brutally murdered by the Armenian Armed Forces. Such actions of Armenia are in obvious contrast with the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. No one can prohibit or restrict free movement of Azerbaijani citizens within Azerbaijan’s territory, except for particular cases mentioned in Azerbaijani laws. Armenia has created the illegal Nagorno-Karabakh regime in Azerbaijan’s territory in order to cover up its acts of occupation and aggression against Azerbaijan. With such actions against Azerbaijan, Armenia violates the principles and norms of international law, the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act and must be held directly accountable for it. The Republic of Azerbaijan continues working with international organizations, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and the International Committee of the Red Cross for the release Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
