“Unfortunately, this year has not been any progress in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The main reason for this is non-constructive and insincere behavior of the Armenian side. Armenia is trying to tighten the issue as much as possible and leave the status quo unchanged”, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socioeconomic development in nine months of 2014 and objectives for the future, on October 8, APA reports.
The President recalled that the Heads of State of the OSCE Minsk Group have repeatedly stated that the status quo is unacceptable and must be changed: “Changing the status quo means the liberation of the occupied lands. But, unfortunately, Armenia ignores these statements. The sides that voice these statements do not take serious measures, and in this case, the issue does not find its solution. We are committed and will strive to ensure that this issue was soon resolved. Our principled position remains unchanged. This position is recognized by the international community. “
Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity recognized by the international community and the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved only within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity: “There is no other way. The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions to resolve this conflict. These are the main documents for resolving the issue. Other international organizations have also adopted relevant decisions and resolutions. That is, from a legal point of view, our position is strong enough.”
The Head of State noted that from an economic point of view to compare Armenia with Azerbaijan is impossible: “Azerbaijan is affluent, growing, independent state. Of course, the balance of forces is changing and will change in our favor. Gap between us even more deepen. There are no factors for the successful development of Armenia. Since the country is experiencing a recession. The more the Armenian criminal dictatorship reigns mode, the faster this country completely lost its independence. And now it is impossible to call Armenia as an independent country. We also develop. We have plenty of opportunities and the economic and political points of view.”
The President also noted that Azerbaijan is making good progress and will continue the construction of the army: “Our troops have given a decent answer to the provocations of Armenian armed forces on the contact line in the third quarter of the year. Were destroyed dozens of occupants. They suffered heavy crushing blow. They’re just trying to get on the eve of Sochi meeting for a more favorable position. But their efforts have failed, and were eventually destroyed Armenian soldiers. And the main culprit for this is a criminal regime in Armenia.”
Azerbaijani President stressed that no force can affect the principled position of Azerbaijan: “We will restore our territorial integrity. Political, diplomatic, economic and military factors play key role in this issue. I have repeatedly said, and once again want to say that the demographic factor plays a significant role. According to official statistics, only during nine months of this year, country’s population has decreased by 80 thousand people. That is 80 thousand Armenian citizens have left the country and did not return. This trend will continue until the end of the year, and thus, the Armenian population to fall by more than 100 thousand people. A population of Azerbaijan is growing and will grow. This, in turn, will play a fundamental role in resolution of conflict and regional panorama as a whole. There are several reasons for the massive leaving of Armenians the country: corruption, dictatorship, limiting business opportunities, unemployment, and poverty. Of course, after the recent events on the frontline this massive leaving took an even greater scale. If Armenia once again resort to provocations, once again will get decent answer and see how this provocation will give impetus to a new wave of leaving. In short, again I want to say, let Azerbaijani society know that we will not retreat from our position of principle. We strive and will strive to solve this issue, and will solve.”
