OSCE PA Vice-President: Trial of Azerbaijani hostages in Nagorno-Karabakh illegal

The OSCE PA considers the “trial” of the Azerbaijani hostages in the unrecognized republic of Nagorno-Karabakh illegal, said Mr. George Sereteli, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, APAreports. He said the “trial” can be perceived as illegal based on the fact that the UN and other international organizations recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

“Similar trials can also be held in unrecognized Abkhazia. But we don’t recognize them. We haven’t yet discussed the issue of the hostages at the OSCE PA. But what I can say is that this must be in accordance with international principles. The matter should be settled this way”, he said.

However, the vice-president couldn’t answer the question about what actions the OSCE is going to take for the hostages to be released: “To answer this sort of question, one needs to be ready. I’m not ready for this. Of course, the OSCE has relevant bodies dealing with it”.
