Samad Seyidov: Issue of recent Armenian provocations against Azerbaijan raised at meetings of PACE Standing Committee, Bureau

The rapporteur appointed at the PACE will visit Baku to prepare a report titled “Growing tension in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied regions”

On November 14-18, the Azerbaijani delegation attending the meetings of the Monitoring and Standing committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the PACE bureau have held a meeting with British MP Robert Valter, who was appointed a rapporteur at the PACE to prepare a report titled “Growing tension in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied regions”. We had negotiations with the rapporteur and decided to schedule Robert Valter’s visit to Azerbaijan for the beginning of next year. The Nagorno-Karabakh issue needs thorough discussion. Azerbaijan has demonstrated its readiness for discussing this issue seriously and conveying it to the Council of Europe”, said Samad Seyidov, Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, in a statement to APA

S.Seyidov said the Armenian side has again refused to work with the rapporteur with various pretexts, adding that this was no secret to the PACE.

S.Seyidov said a number of issues have been raised at the meetings of both the PACE’s Standing Committee and Bureau regarding Armenia’s recent provocations against Azerbaijan: “I myself raised the issue of the downing of an Armenian military helicopter by the Azerbaijani soldiers while assaulting on Azerbaijani civilians. Let the European community know and be aware that the existence of the ceasefire does not mean the opposite side will, taking the advantage of this ceasefire, fly its military helicopters over Azerbaijani villages, Azerbaijani territories, and Azerbaijan will not react to it. Azerbaijan has reacted to such cases and will continue to react. From now on, everyone needs to know we will keep this issue on the agenda and will not be taken in by any Armenian provocation until Armenian troops withdraw from Azerbaijani lands and Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is ensured”.

S. Seyidov said rapporteur Robert Valter too was informed about the issue of the Armenian helicopter.
