Name of Georgian writer removed from ‘black list’ of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry

The name of Georgian citizen, writer David Turashvili has been removed from the list of personas non grata of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the statement by the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hikmet Hajiyev said Apr.13.

Turashvili sent an appeal letter to the Azerbaijani side asking to remove his name from the ‘black list’ of the Foreign Ministry, according to the statement.

Georgian writer said in this appeal that his visit to Azerbaijan’s occupied territories was accidental and wasn’t aimed at disrespecting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and law.

Turashvili’s appeal was examined and it was decided to remove his name from the ‘black list’ of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, said the statement from Hajiyev.

The visits to Nagorno-Karabakh and other Armenia-occupied regions of Azerbaijan without Azerbaijan’s consent are considered illegal, and the names of the persons who made these visits are included on the “black list” of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
