The European Union shows disrespect for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, first deputy speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov told reporters May 22.
EU showed during the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga that it uses double standards with respect to Azerbaijan, according to Asgarov.
“Unfortunately, during the summit held within the partnership program, a mistaken opinion was expressed on the issue of territorial integrity as well,” he said.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
