$6.1 billion was spent on the measures taken over the last 20 years to resolve problems of the refugees and IDPs till they return to their native lands, especially those aimed at bettering their housing and living conditions, the press service of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs told APA. $2.5 billion out of the given amount belongs to the State Oil Fund. On account of this amount alone, new estates consisting of 89 modern-style settlements and multistory living buildings with all socio-technical infrastructures were put into use. 210,000 people were settled in these areas. Besides, we still have some citizens who live in difficult conditions. To better their housing and living conditions, a set of measures approved with the order of the head of state are systematically being carried out in accordance with the State Program and additions to it. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has assessed the measures taken by Azerbaijan in this area as an example to the world’s other countries facing similar problems.
