Azerbaijan’s embassy in Spain has submitted a note of protest to Spain’s Foreign Ministry in connection with illegal visit of opera singer Montserrat Caballé to the occupied Azerbaijani territories. The embassy told APA that the note was submitted on June 5, it has not been replied to yet. The embassy also said after it was announced (in May) that Montserrat Caballé will give concerts in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, the embassy’s representatives contacted her managers and administrators and informed them about the possible results of the visit. The administrators said concert is planned only in the capital of Armenia, the visit to Karabakh is not planned. But Armenia media have reported that on June 4 Montserrat Caballé visited Nagorno Karabakh and met with leader of the separatists Bako Saakyan.
Spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev has also commented on the issue. He told APA that visiting the occupied Azerbaijani territories without permission of Azerbaijan’s government agencies is illegal, it is disrespect to Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, international law and such steps have negative impact on the resolution of the conflict.
