Azerbaijani Ombudsman addressed the declaration to international organizations regarding the 17th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The declaration demands to prosecute the culprits of the Khojaly genocide – Armenian terrorists and their supporters.
“Armenia should abandon from its aggressive occupation policy, from territorial claims and should obey the international documents adopted as regards the conflict, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan should be completely restored, the violated rights of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs should be restored and sanctions should be applied against the Armenian government by the authoritative international organizations”, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova stated at the event devoted to the Khojaly genocide, the Trend News informs.
The declaration was addressed to the UNO, European Council, the embassies of Azerbaijan abroad, the foreign embassies in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Diaspora Organizations.
Reference of Trend News: General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan continues the investigation over the Khojaly genocide and the culprits’ names were given to the INTERPOL. On the night of 25 to 26 February, 1992, Armenian armed units committed the genocide in Khojaly town, the population – 7 thousand. Over 4 months the town remained in the blockade, so considerable part of the population had to leave the town and only 3 thousand people remained there after the attack of the Armenian troops. 613 people were killed, 1000 civilians of different ages were wounded and became disabled. 106 women, 63 children and 70 old people were among the killed. 8 families were completely wiped out, 25 children lost both parents, 130 – one of the parents. 1275 people were taken captives; the fate of 150 people is still unknown.
