Ceasefire violated by 199 times in Azerbaijan-Armenia contact line in summer The ceasefire has been violated by 199 times on the Azerbaijan-Armenia contact line from mid June to early September, Spokesman of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Eldar Sabiroglu said on Sept.3.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently holding the peace negotiations.
The OSCE has held regular monitoring since the ceasefire agreement was achieved.

According to Sabiroglu, the ceasefire was broken mostly in Khojavand, Goranboy, Agdam and Tartar.

In 2009, the OSCE held only four monitoring on the Azerbaijan-Armenia contact line, Sabiroglu added.
