The visit of a delegation led by the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland to Azerbaijan was postponed until mid-May, Council of Europe press service told Trend on April 15.
The visit was postponed due to the fact that this and the following week Jagland must take part in the emergency debates in Strasbourg with regard to the developments in Ukraine, as well as the in meetings of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
The delegation led by Jagland was scheduled to visit Azerbaijan in April 22-24.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the prospects for cooperation between the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan, as well as the issues regarding Azerbaijan’s chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
It was also expected to announce the official start of the Council of Europe’s action plan for Azerbaijan, which covers the period from 2014 to 2016.
It was planned to hold meetings between Jagland and Azerbaijani officials, including the chairman of Milli Majlis (parliament of Azerbaijan), the country’s foreign minister and justice minister.
