Young Azeri researcher doctor of political sciences of Mannheim University in Germany, member of the Union of Azeri students and scientists Azer Babayev delivered a speech on “Unexpected chance for peace in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” in Azeri Connection Center of in Germany (ACCG), Press Service of State Committee on Diaspora informs Lent.az. The representatives of different German organizations and Azeri Diaspora participated in the meeting moderated by the deputy of Berlin city parliament Andreas Kohlerin (SPD fraction). Azer Babayev dedicated his speech to the processes going around Nagorno-Karabakh conflict after Southern Osetia issue. First of all he pointed out that after Southern Osetia issue the leading powers of the West was trying to make some changes in their policy due to the region and they were absolutely against for Southern Osetia and Abkhazia which were recognized independent by Russia to become precedent for Nagorno-Karabakh. Besides, Western politicians have started to stress a special role of the principal of territorial integrity in solution of this kind of conflicts. From the other side in the context of Southern Osetia events Armenian regional isolation situation showed that official Yerevan was not able to provide the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh for a long time. That is the why the importance of normal relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey for Armenia has risen.
Then young researcher stated that Southern Osetia issue shocked foreign powers who had had special interest in this region and this affected them positively to be more constructive in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The discussions were held after the report. German participants of the meeting were especially active. The meeting was recorded by local radio “Deusche Welle”.
