Stability and peace in the region depends on the solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict – the US vice-presidentThe US decisively supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, US vice-president, Dick Chaney stated during his meeting with Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev.
“The US supports solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the framework of territorial integrity and international law. Solution of the conflict is very important now, because stability and peace in the region depends on the solution of Azerbaijan’s security problem as well”, Chaney stated.
Azerbaijani President stated in the meeting that the US, as a co-chair to the OSCE Minsk Group plays an important role in the solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “This conflict must be settled under the international law and by observing territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as well as the region and other states of the world”, he stated.

Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory – Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. The occupation started in 1988. Until December 1991, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojaly. In 1992-93, Shusha, Khojaly and seven surrounding regions of Nagorno-Karabakh were occupied too. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and hold peace talks till today.
The co-chairs to the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the USA, are mediating for peaceful solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
