Moscow backs up territorial integrity of Azerbaijan – RF State Duma’s Committee leader

Moscow backs up territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Russia backs up territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and will continue making efforts for solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Aleksey Ostrovsky, the chairman to the Russian Parliament’s Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots stated to Trend News in Baku on November 20. “Until Baku and Yerevan don’t sit around a negotiation table and don’t come to an agreement acceptable for both sides, the solution process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be continued”, Ostrovsky stated.

The conflict between the two countries of South Caucasia started in 1988 over territorial claims raised by Armenia against Azerbaijan. Until December 1991, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojaly. But in 1992-93, Shusha, Khojaly and seven surrounding districts of Nagorno-Karabakh were occupied too. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and hold fruitless peace talks till today.
The co-chairs to the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the USA, are mediating for peaceful solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
