Armenian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said his country might recognize Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized region of Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state.
“This [option] is never ruled out but we are now waiting due to the logic of the negotiations… If Azerbaijan’s position leads negotiations to a standstill, then nothing is excluded,” Shavarsh Kocharian told Echo Moskvy Radio in an interview.
Asked by an Azerbaijani journalist that Azerbaijan will choose to quickly resolve the conflict by military means if Armenia keeps on hindering peaceful solution, Shavarsh Kocharian said this step would expedite the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh region.
“A cease-fire brokered by Russia in 1994 is still valid and it is for the benefit of all peoples” said Deputy Minister.
He said the peaceful solution to the conflict hinges on how constructive Azerbaijan’s position is.
“For this, Azerbaijan must give up the either-all-or-war position,” he added.
