Nagorno Karabakh is a historical and indigenous territory of Azerbaijan

“Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov’s visit to Iran assumes great importance”, Deputy of Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Dr. Muhammad Hussein Farhangi told APA.

According to him, everyone is aware of historical relations, links and common traditions between Iran and Azerbaijan. “We can do great works in political, economic, trade and cultural fields and take the steps of utmost significance in terms of further expansion of bilateral ties”, he said.

Highly assessing the Azerbaijani Parliament Chairman’s upcoming visit to Iran, his meetings with President Mahmud Ahmedinejat, Foreign Minister Manuchohr Mottaki and Speaker ofIslamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Larijani, Farhangi noted that it would be beginning of a new stage and development of relations between the two countries.

He stated that Asadov would deliver a speech in the Iranian Parliament and visit Tabriz within the framework of his 3-day visit.

Expressing his respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Farhangi said they were concerned about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “Iran always stands by Azerbaijan in this issue. Heads of Azerbaijan, Iran and Armenia should come together for the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. This conflict can be resolved only in such a way. We are against bloodshed and slaughter. All problems must be resolved peacefully. But we know it very well that Nagorno Karabakh is historical and indigenous territory of Azerbaijan. The sides must make every effort to resolve it peacefully”.

Farhangi noted that Nagorno Karabakh is one the main issues to be discussed within the framework of Asadov’s visit to Iran.

Touching upon Azerbaijani scientist Rashid Aliyev’s arrest in Iran, Farhangi said: “Of course, this issue concerns the law-enforcement bodies. As I know, Azerbaijani and Iranian embassies are also involved in this issue. In any case, I hope that this problem will be resolved in the near future. It is an undesirable case between the two friendly countries”.
