2 618 950 square meters of territory was cleared of mines and explosives in Azerbaijan in August, 2009, press service of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Actions (ANAMA) told APA.
9 430 mines and unexploded ordnances (UXO) were found and disarmed during the operations.
425 experts and 115 assistants, as well as five mine-clearing vehicles and 30 mine-sniffing dogs were involved in the mine actions.
ANAMA cleared totally 110 263 642 square m so far. 477 602 mines and UXO were found and disarmed.
The mine clearing actions are carried out in the regions of Tartar, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Tovuz and Aghstafa regions, as well as in Garadagh district of Baku.
One mine incident took place in August. Resident of Garakhanbeyli village of Fuzuli region Maharramov Afsar Maharram was injured as his tractor hit an anti-tank mine in the field on August 13.
