The expansion of cooperation and mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and Belarus in the military sphere, and the contribution of the two countries to regional security was discussed during the meeting of Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov with the delegation led by Chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee of Belarus Sergei Gurulev , Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Feb.4.
Gurulev emphasized the existence of great prospects for cooperation in various spheres between Azerbaijan and Belarus.
Hasanov stressed that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia is the main threat to the region’s stability.
During the meeting the parties exchanged views on the current relations in the military, military and technological spheres and other issues.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
