Article 3 of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” of 1948 adopted by the UNO General Assembly says:
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
The constitutions of the world states’ majority are based on this Declaration in the human rights field. The fact that human life and freedom are the most important things in the world is recognized by all the mankind. Much to my regret, existence of such perfect laws in our modern world is still not effective enough to prevent injustice and savagery. Wars, massacres, terror acts and other similar crimes deprive millions of people from “right to life”.
Azerbaijan suffers from this injustice as well. As a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the rights of over 1 million people were violated; they were driven out of their native lands and suffered privations. Thousands of people were slain, taken captives and hostages.
It is said in Article 5 of the Declaration: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”. Hundreds of civilians were ruthlessly killed during one night undergoing unbearable tortures in the massacre committed by Armenians in Azerbaijani Khojaly town. Why the people, whose hands are stained with blood of babies, the old and women, are not called to court of justice for their actions? Why bloody criminals as Kocharian, Sarkisian are not punished, but lead the state?
Sometimes violated rights are restored, indemnity is paid, but much to my regret, the rights of our slain citizens will be never restored. We are waiting for one thing – sensible approach to our rights which may be restored by the world society, international organizations, and superpowers of the world.
After all, the first words of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” concerns all the mankind. “Every person…should have all the rights and freedoms stated in this Declaration without any discrimination”.
