On February 3, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended unveiling ceremony of the monument to the composer Gara Garayev in 28 May street, Baku.
APA reports that author of the three-meter high granite monument is People’s Artist Fazil Najafov. Renovation works have been carried out around the monument.
Head of the State made a speech at the ceremony.
Rector of Baku Music Academy, People’s Artist Farhad Badalbayli, Chairman of Azerbaijani Writers’ Union, People’s Writer Anar, Gara Garayev’s student, People’s Artist, composer Arif Malikov spoke about Gara Garayev’s merits in the improvement of Azerbaijani music.
The composer’s son, professor of Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky, Honored Art Worker, composer Faraj Garayev expressed his gratitude for the monument.
Thereafter, the President unveiled the monument.
Head of State and his spouse laid flowers at the monument.
