Baku comments on views of James Warlick, U.S. Co-Chair of OSCE Minsk Group

“The negotiations on the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict are being conducted between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The negotiations between Baku and Yerevan within the OSCE Minsk Group aim at resolving the conflict and signing a comprehensive peace agreement,” spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA while commenting on the views of U.S. co-chair James Warlick.

“Greek and Turkish Cypriots announced they will have full-fledged negotiations on a settlement. Why can’t this happen for Nagorno-Karabakh?” wrote James Warlick on his Twitter.

Armenian media interpreted these views as a call to change the format of the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and Nagorno Karabakh’s joining the process.

The foreign ministry of the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” responded to these views on Twitter: “We agree with Ambassador Warlick that it is high time to restore the full-fledged negotiations with the direct participation of Nagorno Karabakh.”

Some comments have been made on Warlick’s views. Elnur Aslanov, the department chief of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, noted that such statements need to be clarified: “Unfortunately, some unfinished sentences that require further clarification mislead public opinion. There are only two parties in the negotiations – Azerbaijan and Armenia.”

On February 11, after two-year break, the talks were resumed between the Greek and Turkish communities of Cyprus. Following the meeting, the leaders of both communities expressed their desire to come to an arrangement as soon as possible. /APA/
