First vice-speaker: True act of genocide committed in Azerbaijani town of Khojaly

A true act of genocide was committed in the town of Khojaly, Azerbaijan, First Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov said while commenting on the reaction of the world community to the so-called Armenian genocide.

The Turkish president and PM have repeatedly announced that all archives of the Ottoman state are open, urging the world community to create an investigation commission that can bring together historians either from Turkey and Armenia or other countries, the first vice-speaker said.

“Let them investigate whether such an act of genocide was committed or not. This will be concluded in case when the historians express their opinion toward it. There is no prospect of turning it into a political instrument, blackmailing and making it be adopted in some areas. Most Armenians know that such genocide was not committed. However, a true act of genocide was committed in Khojaly. The Azerbaijani MPs once again raised this issue at PACE yesterday. There are genocide survivors, facts, audio and video recordings on the genocide. However, any event of 1915 is called genocide without any evidence. This is a manifestation of double standards. There is no prospect of such an approach,” Asgarov noted.
