German Bundestag member: “If the resolutions of the Security Council are not implemented then the whole peace process lacks foundation”

“Germany supports the UN resolutions. The UN Security Council has demanded several times that Armenia withdraw from Nagorno-Karabakh. This view is supported by the European Union and the OSCE,” Dr Peter Tauber, Member of the German Bundestag CDU and permanent member of the Committee for Social Affairs, expressed his opinion on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan while responding to The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS).

The German Bundestag member said that one million refugees are still not able to return to their homeland: “That is a significant proportion of Azerbaijan’s total population of just over 9 million. It is the right of the refugees to return to their lands. The occupied territories are part of Azerbaijan. Recognition of Azerbaijan’s position and efforts to restore its territorial integrity must be concerted actions. The conflict in the occupied territories could escalate at any time, as we see in the ongoing debate about re-opening the airport at Khojaly. This is a very provocative move against Azerbaijan.

He first moves to de-escalte the situation has to come from the Armenian side. If the resolutions of the Security Council are not implemented then the whole peace process lacks foundation.”
