Gabriel Lansky: “Such a historical decision can be a significant event in terms of the peaceful coexistence in the region and Azerbaijan’s occupied territories”
Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli – APA. “I am quite optimistic about today’s hearing. A decision can be passed up to 6 months. I’m quite optimistic. We will succeed in this process,” Gabriel Lansky, the lawyer of the Azerbaijani side, told journalists following the hearing at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) Grand Chamber on the issue “Chiragov and others v. Armenia”, APA’s Europe bureau reports.
The lawyer said that the main strategy of plaintiff is to achieve the final positive decision of ECtHR: “Such a historical decision can be a significant event in terms of peaceful coexistence in the region and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. As you know, along with the Council of Europe, other international organizations also confirmed the occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories by Armenia. In this regard, I am completely certain that this process should be carried out against Armenia. The claims of the Armenian side regarding the necessity of Azerbaijanis to sue at the courts of Nagorno Karabakh are completely groundless. I am completely sure that Azerbaijanis can neither complain before the courts of Nagorno Karabkh nor of Armenia. Hence there is only the need for the European Court of Human Rights regarding this case.
I consider that such a trick of Armenians will not be accepted by the judges. The facts at the hand of the Court allow us to claim our success in this case. The resolution of the court on taking up the case in 2011 was our first step toward success.”
