Creation of Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex has started in Baku. The Memorial Complex to be built on the project of Heydar Aliyev Foundation aims to perpetuate the memory of the Khojaly genocide victims and inform the world community about the truths on the tragedy. The project has been developed on the concept having symbolic meaning.
Heydar Aliyev Foundation told APA that according to the concept, the trees blossoming late in February will be planted in the yard of the complex. This symbolizes incomplete life of the innocent people killed in February, 1992.
The monolith encircling the complex has been depicted in the form of symbolic hands trying to protect Khojaly residents from genocide.
The model of Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex is on display as a part of “Mini Azerbaijan” project at Heydar Aliyev Center.
The model of Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex has been submitted to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. Having familiarized himself with the project President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant recommendations and instructions regarding the construction of the complex.
The Memorial Complex will cover the facts on killing of 613 people in Khojaly by Armenian armed forces and the 366th infantry regiment of Russia on the night of February 25-26 in 1992 and the complete destruction of the city. The structure of the Complex, its atmosphere and the materials presented will allow seeing the Khojaly events once again and feeling the horror of the tragedy. The Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex will be built nearby the monument “Ana feryadi” (Mother’s cry) erected to the victims of the tragedy.
Heydar Aliyev Foundation is regularly taking measures to inform the world community about the Khojaly truths and achieve the recognition of the tragedy as a genocide against the Azerbaijani people. Within the projects implemented up to now, the facts on Khojaly events have been spread in various countries, marches, various campaigns held through internet, including the signature collection campaign for recognizing the tragedy as a genocide and etc. Consequently, from year to year the coverage of the Khojaly truths and the number of the countries recognizing this tragedy as genocide are increasing.
Establishment of Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex is another step to inform the world about the crimes committed by Armenian armed forces during the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, to achieve living of Khojaly genocide in the memories of young generations.
