NAMESAKE
Such acts of armenization was employed to Aghdam – one of the largest ancient cities of the Karabakh region. According to “interkamnews” site, the powers of the unrecognized “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” decided to rename the Azerbaijani city Aghdam. Armenians called the city where was absolutely destroyed at the Azerbaijani-Armenian war and is under Armenian occupation at present as Akna. According to Sergey Nasibekyan, chairman of the institution over local self-control and territorial control of the separatist regime, the decision over renaming of the city is as if related with giving land areas to the Armenians settled in Aghdam, also solution of their social-financial problems. Nasibekyan informed that the city would have a status of region and be subordinate to the close city Askeran. “Aghdam hasn’t been given private status yet, it is joined to Askeran city”, – the representative of the local administration noted. Without exception, he said, Aghdam (Akna) can return its status of an independent habituated point in the future.
According to latest information, nearly just 360 persons of Armenian nationality live in this city who were settled in Aghdam after the war and busy for cattle-breeding and farming although there isn’t electricity, natural gas, there is a deficit of drinking water. According to the information, Akna was the name of a district in Askeran city. But there is another version of the name’s meaning which demonstrates the disgusting example of the anti-Azerbaijan politics of Armenia. Akna is the nick of Varujan Chedzhan, one of the most active members of branch of the international Armenian organization ASALA in Livan – “Secret Armenian Army for Liberation of Armenia”, who was shot in 1976 near Beyrut. “Akna” used to be considered as “grey cardinal” of ASALA, he performed at the newspapers of radical wings of Livan Armenians “Kayzer”, “Hay Paykar”, “Azat Hay”, “Nor Serund” with articles about call to realization of the mythic dreams about “Great Armenia”. He also took part at another Armenian party “Group of Gurgen Yanukyan”. The famous terrorist and killer Monte Melkonyan, specially selected at Armenian-Azerbaijani war, noted that “V. Chedzhan was a very great hero”. It should be noted that until this Armenians spread hearsay about that they, holding boring works at northern part of Aghdam, as if founded an ancient city there. No, not the ancient Aghdam, it appears that there was a city calling Tigranakert according to “great Tigran” until establishment of Aghdam, very long before it. And so, according to this “weighty” base, Armenians insisted to rename the city Aghdam into Tigranakert, but then “Akna” was more “respectful”. We should note that the above-mentioned activities of the separatist regime are completely on the contrary to all international conventions and rules which categorically prohibit one-sided changing of a status, organization structures and demographical containing of territories being the zone of a conflict. The planned settling of Armenians at the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, robbery of natural richness, changing of names of Azerbaijani habituated points and other similar acts are contrary activities exactly to the international rules.
There is one more interesting moment: how can the corresponding international organizations be absolutely indifferent to those disgraceful facts?
