FICTIONS LIKE THE PHENOMENA “KARABAKH”
In one word, the position in the region, and psychical mood of people and specific characters of rumors – all this taught some specialists of the staff of operative control over national-separatist movement to approach the rumors as the mean of manipulation over social consciousness in the region. But we have to note the followings about the mechanism of fabrication of rumors. As you know, there was created “Krunk” (“Camel”) Society in March, 1988 in NKAR for coordination of wrecking activities of separatists which consisted of six departments including the service of ideological and informational provision. And the whole works on fabrication and spreading of the rumors were done by these two service fields. (I want to note that although the mentioned society changed its name later, the structure and functions stayed the same). So, the fabricated legends were smoothed, polished and affirmed at “the highest” level – Balayan’s level. By the way, Balayan (Zoriy Balayan – writer, one of the leading “cooks” of Karabakhian “porridge” – red.) was the author of pester ideas and legends. After all these it was necessary to spread the approved legend among the population. And more reliable persons from the separatists were involved for this work. These spreaders did their work in shops, parks and gardens among pensioners, at bus stations – in one word, the places of dense population. It must also be mentioned the speed of the spreading. For example, a villager coming from far villages could tell you legend at night which he had heard in a bus in the morning.
Generally, sociologists had to start to learn systemically the whole complex of questions related with fabrication and spreading of rumors, and mainly, their affection on consciousness and mood of the crowd long ago.
Of course, the most important detail defining the level of affection of the rumors is the content which consists of the followings: thematic direction and fun of legends.
It appeared easy to interpret the thematic direction of the rumors which existed in NKAR at that time as investigation of aims which they were fabricated for was easy too.
I’ll count the main thematic blocks of these rumors as they aren’t many:
a) strengthening of belief in possibility of realization of the separatist ambitions;
b) people who inspire the illusory hopes or at least their children will meet joys of paradise;
c) advancing the compatriots and staining of Azerbaijanis;
d) applying pressure of insanity and promising terrible punishments in case of surrender.
Here’re all principals and they were enough as their effect wasn’t in their content, but that they adopted with mood of the harassed and psychically tired people. Behavior of such crowd is completely reflective and irrational, and the practiced propagandists of “Karabakh” committee, “Krunk” society and other organizations knew it very well. And they, balancing the relation between white and black colors, wisely manipulated over the mood of the crowd. They also used the support of information channels in spreading of the rumors. Of course, theme of rumors was restored according to existing position in the region and around Karabakhian events, but the content stayed the same: tightening of confrontation which prevented all possibilities for approaching of Armenian and Azerbaijani societies of the region.
Together with thematic direction, authors of the legends didn’t forget about important side – role of their emotional affection on people. It was reached by existing of intriguing start in the fabricated rumors, paradoxical circulation of views, unexpected angle which tied the people’s attention. In one word, we can absolutely confirm that the ideologists of Karabakhian national-separatism paid the most careful attention to creation of different kinds of rumors, legends, their spreading, raising their roles in formation of spirits of people.

Intentions of Russia to create Armenian state
on the territory of Garabagh khanate

Further processes showed that this farsighted and diplomatic step of Ibrahimkhalil khan postponed for some period the intention of G.Potyomkin to overthrown him. On May 19, 1783 knyaz in his secret order wrote: “obedience of Ibrahim khan from Shusha and his request to be regarded as Russian subject cancelled liquidation of khanate” (T.Butkov. Materials for new history of Caucasus through 1722-1803. SPb, 1896, vol.III, p.170).
But, despite G.Potyomkin had changed his order dated from April 6 to overthrown Ibrahimkhalil khan, he did not give a clear answer to khan’s request in order not to miss a chance to use khan of Garabagh against of Guba khan and secretly continue policy of “fondling” Armenians. On May 19 G.Potyomkin wrote to Yekaterina II: “When the situation will be favorable it is necessary to make Ibrahim khan obey and give his province under the rule of national authority (it means Christian melikates – G.N.). Thus the Christian state for Armenians will be created in Asia according to your promise and by my efforts” (A.R.Ionissyan. Russia and Armenian liberation movement in 80-ies of XVIII century. Yerevan, 1947, lecture 3, p.74; G.Butkov. Indicated source, vol.II, p.142).
In May of 1783 knyaz A.Potyomkn gave an order to General P.Potyomkin: “It is necessary to support Armenians in order to create strong Christian state on territory of Garabagh…under the supreme protection of Russia” (G.Butkov, Indicated source, vol.III, p.170).
Letter of Russian spy Reynegs “informing about depriving Ibrahim khan of the power as a result of attack of Russian forces and “restoration of Armenian kingdom” and sent to melik Abov, was captured by khan of Garabagh”. (G.Yezov. Relations of Peter Great with Armenian nation, SPb, 1898). Khan of Garabagh by use of diplomatic skills proved treacherous position of meliks and succeeded to break their resistance.
Ibrahimkhalil khan understood that Russia did not refrained from idea of influence over Garabagh and Russia just wanted to win some time. That is why he gathered about a thousand of his supporters and went to reinforce fort Shusha. (A.Ionisyan, Indicated source, p.79).
P.Potyomkin induced Irakli II to advise Ibrahimkhalil khan to send his courtiers to the General. Obviously, Russian commanders desired to influence the khan of Garabagh through Irakli II in order to make khan to refuse from reinforcement of his positions. Finally, Mirza Vali, the envoy of Ibrahim khan arrived at Tiflis on February 6, 1784 and brought the appeal of the khan to Yekaterina II. In that appeal, Ibrahim khan along with his request to become the subject of Russia also asked “if khan will accept to be Russian subject, whether it will be provided that no one will interfere his internal affairs and support him in fight against enemy?” (A.Ionissyan. Indicated source. p.98). From this question it becomes evident that khan was aware of Salib attack prepared against him and tried to prevent that attack.
Soon after Ibrahimkhlil khan undertook more courageous measure. In May of 1784 Haji Ismail, one of reliable friends of Ibrahim khan, went to Tiflis and on behalf of khan asked Irakli II: “If khan will agree to be the subject of Russia, will you (Irakli II –G.N.) guarantee that no portion of his properties will be given to someone other?” (A.R. Ianissyan. Indicated source, p.101).
In order to prevent insidious intentions of some Christian meliks, Ibrahimkhalil khan used his diplomatic skills and tried to keep bilateral relations with Russia. In July of 1784 vizier of the khan Musa Sultan meet G.Potyomkin and then went to Petersburg, where he was regarded with a respect similar to that of ambassador of a large country (O.P.Markova. Russia, the Caucasus, and international relations in the XVIII century. Moscow, 1966, p.184). Evidently, Russia taking into account authority of Ibrahimkhalil khan and power of khanate, and intending to attract Azerbaijan khanates one-by-one carefully behaved while their diplomatic relations with Ibrahimkhalil khan.
Through that period due to diplomatic efforts of Ibrahimkhalil khan it was impossible to create Armenian state on the territory of Garabagh khanate.

In finishing year was executed his fifty-year anniversary and when he heroically fell in the battlefield where protected the territory and honor of the favorite homeland, he was in thirty years old…
Malik Hamil oglu Asadov was born on June 27, 1962 in Havarly village of the Yevlakh region of the Azerbaijan Republic. Having finished in 1979 study at rural high school, Malik was sent to the active military service in the ranks of the former Soviet army which served in Kazakhstan.
Asadov who has been demobilized out from army began labor activity in the 45th Mingechavir Independent Militarized Fire-prevention Part. For a short time works of the resourceful, cheerful, disciplined Malik turned into the favourite of collective of firemen, and life of this small family as though was embellished with his arrival. But the aggressive policy of Armenia, conceived by force to seize and appropriate part of the Azerbaijani territory, ruined this life of a friendly staff. The outbreak open war of the Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijan forced Malik to take up arms…
Involved in the fight against the occupant forces M.Asadov took the most active part in the battles with the Armenian invaders in Khojaly, Askeran, Agdam, Shusha. After a while, he was appointed commander of the division. Distinguished service of Malik was highly valued by higher republican authorities, he was awarded by Certificates of honorary and awards of the MFA.
January 12, 1992 a detachment of 20 fighters had to go to Susa, where the situation is tense. M.Asadov was among the fighters. At first the group took part in fights for Shusha and surrounding settlements, and then he sent to the Nabilar village that is located near Dashalti village. In all fighting operations in these parts Malik showed the most real heroism and courage, being an example for other fighters. He personally destroyed dozens of Armenian rebels put out of action more military equipment.
January 18, 1992 Armenians made attack on the called village. The number of the Azerbaijani fighters standing against the Armenian forces was only 6 people, and the number of the enemy armed fighters passed for one hundred. After long heavy fighting the Azerbaijani fighters were compelled to retreat. During the battle M.Asadov who fought with the enemy almost face to face, received several severe wounds, but, despite this, did not leave the battlefield. Near wounded Malik laid dozens of killed Armenian militants…
Some time later, Shusha district police officers came to the aid of the fighters, but, unfortunately, it was too late. Lost a lot of blood M.Asadov died on the battlefield…
He was family, brought up three children.
On October 8, 1992, Asadov Malik Hamil ogly was posthumously conferred the honorary title of the National Hero of Azerbaijan by the decree of the President of Azerbaijan.
The hero was buried in his native Havarly village of Yevlakh district.
Havarly rural high school, where M.Asadov studied before, now bears the name of the hero. At this school, and in front of the establishment, where at one time he worked the busts of the courageous son of the Azerbaijani people is established.

Adam Shiff – homegrown lamb of Armenians
It is reality that there are people from non-Armenian nationality who changed into artificial Armenians thanks to money of Armenian diasporas all over the world. But even they aren’t identic: there are real toadies, forcedly “lovers”, but also Armenian citizens among them.
One of these “famous” homegrown lambs of Armenians is well-known Adam Shiff, American congressman, member of Chamber of Representatives of US Congress. He was mentioned in the previous issues of our newspaper. This is the same Shiff who, for his own political career, all individual material life depending on Armenian diaspora, defined his political activity as harming Azerbaijan and Turkey as much as possible, permanently, to stain them without break even if there wasn’t any base. He is so adjusted against the underlined countries that he impudently pokes his nose to problems which don’t relate him or he hasn’t any competency about. Making a speech in February in Chamber of representatives of US Congress about the 24th anniversary of Sumgait events, Mr. Shiff stated: “Today I get up to mention the memories of tens of Armenians who lost their lives as the result of open attacks of Azerbaijanis against Armenian population in Sumgait city 24 years ago”. Yes, mentioning of memories of the dead people not depending on their national subordination is humane feature. But Adam (in Azerbaijani the word “adam” means “person” although it is paradoxical to that type) executes it completely disturbing the humane feelings of humanity. In such case he would “get up to mention memories” tens, hundreds, thousands of Azerbaijanis died innocently in Armenia, in Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) – Khojali, Garadaghli, Djamilli, Meshali and other territories of regions of Azerbaijan where was occupied by his lovely Armenia and which the majority consisted of children, women and old people.
Then this slanderer, as if being real witness of the events happened in Sumgait, continued telling drivel shamelessly: “Beginning from 27 February, 1988 and in the continuation of three days Azerbaijanis attacked and killed Armenians, hundreds of people were wounded, women and young girls were wildly raped, they also beat them and killed them. Thousands of people were driven out of their houses becoming to refugees, and their houses and properties were robbed and destroyed…”
Changing the places of the aggressor Armenia with the injured Azerbaijan, the pro-Armenian congressman impudently concocted that the last one committed great aggression against Armenia and NK where he takes a base for own claims to the address of the USA leadership about stopping making military support to Azerbaijan: “At the next years after the mentioned unbelievable events, Armenians who used to live in Kirovabad and Baku met the same horror. This massacre was only a part of anti-Armenian activities held all over Azerbaijan which had prepared plot of aggression for two decades during which the leadership of Azerbaijan initiated the war against the nation of Nagorno-Karabakh… As the result of armed fights thousands of people died and hundreds thousands of Armenians were removed and the Armenian population of Azerbaijan which used to be in amount of 450 thousand people practically disappeared”.
Such absurdity was never made before even by Armenians. Firstly, in the investigation it was proved that Sumgait events of 1988 year was early planned according to Armenian plot by soviet special bodies against Azerbaijan which firstly struggled for liberty and independency in soviet union. Armenians – citizens of the city started to take their deposits from banks several months before the mess and sold their houses and this was one more proof. Secondly, visit of many foreign journalists until the events is also a proof. Thirdly, it was proved in the investigation that murder and rape of Armenians, robbing in Sumgait was committed as a part of the above-mentioned plan by a group of Armenians led by Eduard Grigoryan who was sentenced for three times and was Armenian. Fourthly, Mr. A. Shiff demonstrates with his contradicting “facts” that he tells drivel. Together with “standing up to mention the memories of tens of Armenians” he also talks about “thousands of people who lost their lives and hundred thousands of deported Armenians”. According to the real statistics of the results of the mess, during Sumgait events only 32 persons died, 26 of them were Armenians and 6 were Azerbaijanis. About “the lost 450 thousand Armenian population of Azerbaijan” – nobody could make such idea except of Adam! And also, does this man know that deportation of 500 thousand Azerbaijanis from Armenia was much heavier? I want to mention only one event showing super wildness of Armenians and making full imagination about the form of the mentioned deportation process. In 1989, after earthquake in Armenia, French rescuers found a large round pipe which was soldered from both sides and they found dead bodies of 70 Azerbaijani juvenile children inside it. Does Shiff know any analogue of this fascist act?
“Aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenian and NK” is also a full drivel, this disgusting congressman who shows to the USA that they “wouldn’t make any aggression against Armenia or Nagorno-Karabakh from now” and warms them of that “they mustn’t let the nation of Nagorno-Karabakh be in Aliyev’s hands”. By the way, it is one more fantastic “drivel” of Shiff. Who can prove the mentioned absurd about aggression of Azerbaijan? If it is really so, then how one fifth of Azerbaijani territory appeared under control of Armenia? Why the number of the dead is five-six times more on “attacker” Azerbaijan than “defending” Armenian side? Then, is this congressman so naive that he thinks to delete the real history? You know, there’s chronology of events which demonstrated who kindled the conflict and who started the war firstly. In one word, it seems the homegrown lamb of Armenians has serious problems with his logic. Just look at what he says: “Nation of Artsakh meets daily danger of 100 thousands of mines which were put during military activities in beginning of nineties and great part of the lands hadn’t cleaned up”. Well, you can feel that these mines were put by Azerbaijani side. But if it is so, then how the invading powers of Armenia could cross the mined lands safely and occupy the ancient lands of Azerbaijan? Or how Azerbaijani soldiers can put mines in territories of NK where is called as “Artsakh” by Armenians and Shiff and not included into structure of Azerbaijan?
The congressman, who has swelled thanks to money of Armenians, isn’t squeamish about even poking his nose to the history of Azerbaijan and falsifying it: “…confrontation between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh or “Artsakh” – nearly the whole Armenian region, where was given to control Azerbaijani administration in 1923 by soviet leadership although centuries of cultural and religious unity with Armenia”. No doubt that Armenians told him this and he didn’t attempt to look over the archive documents where he could know that Karabakh was the historical territory of Azerbaijan. In 1923 Armenians wanted to appropriate it as now, but the Bolshevik leadership decided to keep it in the structure of Azerbaijan giving autonomy as it had to be.
It seems extradition from Hungary to Azerbaijan and amnesty of Azerbaijani soldier Ramil Safarov made Mr. A. Shiff angrier than Armenians: “I was deeply worried hearing about the repatriation and following amnesty of Ramil Safarov who was sentenced for murder of the soldier Gurgen Markaryan of Armenian army”. I won’t talk about legality of this process again, because there was fully written about this in our newspaper. It is just interesting for me, why this vendible congressman wasn’t “deeply worried of” non-punishment of hundreds of Armenian despots who killed thousands of innocent Azerbaijanis if he is really “adam” (“person”)? Concretely, we have to keep in our mind that A. Shiff who recognizes that “their work (Armenians – G. Z.) is our work and they will use my maximal support” and similar traitors dig the earth beneath our feet tirelessly.

We need our own native land
Our large family is expelled by the Armenian armed gangster formations from the Fizuli region of Azerbaijan in August, 1993. During the long time preceding this exile, settlements of our district were exposed to frequent attacks from large-caliber tools. How many houses were destroyed by shells, how many civilians were killed in the houses, on streets, in cars. In the last times we were afraid to stay at home, with neighbors gathered in cellars of buildings. It was very disturbing and unlucky days: it was difficult to find products, in particular bread, often there was no electricity, water. But the population even in such difficult situation didn’t leave the houses, up to capture of our district by Armenians. And, eventually, the enemy occupied our native places, and we, having left a home, turned into internally displaced persons.
Having got over somehow to the capital of Baku, we lodged in one room of a hostel of the Azerbaijani State University. I will tell directly that I can’t call 19-year hostel life as life. Our family consisted of five people: mother, three sisters and brother. Imagine how we can live in such conditions. Because of narrowness my sisters dispersed in different places, the most part of our household things we put in a hostel corridor. Yes all families so do, there is no other way out, and therefore it is difficult even to pass along the corridor. Here conditions intolerable: general toilet, general bath, common kitchen, and besides, all of them in bad condition. Everywhere it is necessary to occupy turn.
One of the main problems which almost all internally displaced persons face, including us, the workplace problem is. It is clear, that, without working, it is impossible to live. Now we receive a monthly so-called grant to bread on each family member. It is the scanty sum, and it, certainly, doesn’t suffice on monthly expenses of a family. Therefore we are compelled to work somehow to find a way out.
And all this because of aggressive Armenia, after all we in our district neither in a housing question, nor in funds for life had no problems. There our family lived in own house, we had a good personal plot, a livestock, poultry…
Now the state works over the solution of our housing problem. In three places of the city high-rise buildings especially for internally displaced persons where all conditions for normal life created are constructed, and soon us will place in these buildings. Certainly, our living conditions much more will improve.
But all the same we want to return to the native land, us uncontrollably pulls in these places. After all we were born and grew there, our fathers and grandfathers in these parts are based. However, apparently, the international organizations are not in force to return our lands occupied by Armenia. In my opinion, after all ourselves should expel the Armenian aggressors and to provide territorial integrity of the country. Our sons are ready on it if only there were instructions of the commander-in-chief of the country. Inshallah, it inevitably will occur…

“The sides must show their political will”
What does this absurd slogan of co-chairs mean?
It is known that Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, being the reason of instability in the region, has been continuing for 24 years. And the OSCE Minsk Group (MG) “has been busy” for its regulation nearly for 20 years. We specially noted it between quotes, because there isn’t any progress or at least any change at the mentioned problem for the past two decades.
Why the structure which is considered as one of the most authoritative organizations in the world, couldn’t do anything over solution of the underlined conflict? We can talk a lot about the reasons of the present undesirable situation. But we can classify all these reasons under common name – double standards, which is typical for attitude of the organization to the conflict. And what can anyone imagine under this expression? It means to approach to any problem from double sides, that to approach not according to requirements of law, but to consider only one of two sides. Exactly this was happened about regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Co-chair countries of MG – USA, Russia and France and their changing representatives in the mentioned group supported the position of Armenia openly during all the past time. Only the fact of putting the aggressor side and injured side on the same supervision by MG, also,non-punishment, ineffectiveness and strengthening of the first one is an open proof of the mentioned claim. And the complete ineffectiveness of longing “mediatory activities” of MG is related with the above-mentioned position.
What the underlined international structure was busy for during all these long years? They were busy for chattering, organizing useless visits and meetings, creating uncountable and useless statements, and serving for improvement of personal material position by the way of prolonging the negotiation process artificially. In one word, we had written about this for many times, we write now too and maybe, we will continue writing until all this happen.
I want to touch only one – the penultimate “activity” of MG co-chairmen. We have accustomed to the following common statement which they make after every visit or meeting: “The meeting was held in constructive form, we reached certain achievement, the co-chairs underlined importance of reducing the tension between the sides… They introduced their ideas about improvement of the process of peaceful regulation, the sides affirmed their determination to continue holding the activities together with the co-chairs with the aim of achievement of peaceful regulation. Ministers and co-chairmen agreed to continue discussion in future about the suggested ideas by the co-chairs…”. As the main suggestion, MG co-chairs used to make the expression “the sides should go to compromise”, perfectly understanding that this suggestion wasn’t the needed one. But now the mediators use the absurd and very mysterious expression “the sides must show their political will”.
What does it mean to show political will? Presumably, during use of the underlined sentence to Armenia, the co-chairs think of the following: Armenia will have to return whenever five regions (Aghdam, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli) to Azerbaijan. It doesn’t need Lachin and Kalbajar regions as they directly relate Armenia with NK. For NK and the underlined two regions, Armenia has to “show political will” and leave the mentioned Azerbaijani regions. And the co-chairs think of the following related with Azerbaijan: permanent prolonging of regulation minimizes the hopes of Azerbaijan for getting back all occupied lands. On the other side, NK factually appears in hands of Armenians and it isn’t needed to get back them from Armenia. For five mentioned regions, Azerbaijan must “show political will” and refuse NK, also Lachin and Kalbajar regions.
“Behavior” of the co-chairs during the whole period of their useless “activities” makes other suspicions too. Can they mean the following absurd under the expression “show political will” in relation with Azerbaijan: let it takes hands off from its occupied territories? Can anyone show us another meaning of the expression “the sides must show their political will”? It would be better that the co-chairs themselves explained the close meaning of the expression.
The dictum of the OSCE MG co-chairs “the sides must show their political will” is the next distracting manner and doesn’t cause the least changes in positive direction in negotiation process over regulation of 24 years old Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
The majority of Azerbaijani population has already lost their hopes for peaceful regulation of the conflict with the mediation of the OSCE and its MG. And the organization itself doesn’t yearn for normalization of the position for clear reasons. Pay attention to statement of the general secretary of OSCE Lamberto Zaniera after twenty years of meaningless activities of his organization: “We can’t push the sides to solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, political will of the both sides is necessary for its solution”. Who asks him to push anyone to anything? You don’t need to push anyone to anywhere, you have to be objective, just, name the things by the original name, you shouldn’t hold politics of double-standards, close your eyes to the fact of occupation, make the same attitude to the occupier and his victim. It is necessary to punish the aggressor severely, adopt strict sanctions about him firstly for that he stopped his dirty acts, secondly, nobody could harm someone anymore and at last, the justice won.
So, let the OSCE and MG do their work – real regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, but not chattering and making different kinds of meaningless, useless quotes and statements.
