Withdrawal of Armenian troops from occupied territories of Azerbaijan would make great contribution to solution of the conflict and development of the region

“Armenia – Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh still remains as a main source of unstable development of the region and obstacle to its integration into Europe”.

APA’s correspondent reports from Athens that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said these words in his speech at the 17th meeting of OSCE Ministerial Council. According to the Minister, 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories are under the occupation, one million Azerbaijanis have become refuges and IDPs, cultural and historical monuments have been destroyed as a result of the conflict.

The minister noted that this year intensiveness is observed in the process of negotiations on solution to the conflict and this intensiveness allowed them to further deepen the discussions over the disagreed issues: “I’d like to note a positive dynamics in the last talks. Along with the parties, the co-chairs also demonstrate intensiveness. Official Baku carries on a constructive policy directed to the establishment of normal relations between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. The relations to be established between the communities would make ground to the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia”.

The head of foreign policy department stated that Nagorno Karabakh’s self determination within Azerbaijan would make an opportunity for sooner solution of the conflict and elimination of tension in the region: “Withdrawal of Armenian troops from occupied territories of Azerbaijan within a defined period of quick time would make great contribution to solution of the conflict and development of the region”.
