1 398 384 square meters area has been cleared of mines and unexploded military supplies in Azerbaijan in July, 2008, press service of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Actions (ANAMA) told APA. 4 979 unexploded military supplies and mines were found and neutralized.
339 field engineers, 5 mechanical mine-clearing machines and 30 mine dogs were involved in the clearing operations. Altogether 319 431 mines and unexploded military supplies have been found and neutralized in 71 978 787 square meters area till today. The agency is carrying out mine-clearing operations in Terter, Agdam, Fizuli, Goranboy, Khojavend and Agstafa regions.
One mine/unexploded military supply accident was recorded last month. According to the statistics of ANAMA basing on various sources, 57 people died and 137 were injured during 101 mine accidents since September, 2001.
