The delegation of Azerbaijan led by Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov attended the general debates.
“The 64th session of the General Assembly will be remarkable for our country since the session will discuss the “situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” and “protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development”. At the same time, we have a task to have the two draft resolutions discussed and adopted. They are “Novruz international day”, “establishing connection to the world through transnational Eurasia information super highway”. The resolution “the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” was adopted at the 62nd session of the UN GA and the decision was made to put it onto the agenda of the 64th session. It means that Armenia`s occupying Azerbaijani lands remained in the focus of world community`s attention. The main point is to attract UN to resolution of the conflict. The discussion of this matter will also help enhance the role of UN and intensify OSCE Minsk Group`s efforts towards finding peaceful solution to the conflict,” said head of the Azerbaijan permanent mission to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev.
