Yerevan calls on Russia to recognize status of Nagorno-Karabakh

Russia, leading by its own interests, creates certian opportunities for Armenia in this line. Armenia longs for getting the occupied Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno-Karabakh recognized as an independent state. Armenians, establishing paralels between Kosovo and Karabakh, appeal, as always and first of all, to its ally – Russia for help. Meanwile, Russia doesn’t rush to help Armenia in this issue. Leader of Caucasia department of the CIS states’ institute, Mikhail Alexandrov stated in Yerevan that Armenia should take the first step in order to recognize Karabakh as an independent state. According to Alexandrov, Russia can decide what to do only after Armenia recognizes independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. “Russia will be guided by the behavior of Azerbaijan; besides, it will be led by the security principles in the region as well”, Alexandrov stated.
