“Azerbaijani lands are under occupation for long years. The ceasefire was declared 15 years ago, but the issue didn’t find its solution yet.
Armenia’s ethnic cleansing policy and military aggression against Azerbaijan resulted with the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands and turned one million people into the refugees and internally displaced persons”, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his press statement after the meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, APA reports.
The head of state noted that Azerbaijan supported the solution of the problem on the basis of international law. “UN General Assembly’s decisions and Security Council’s four resolutions demand unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied lands. The resolutions of other international organizations also support our position. The occupation must be ended and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored”.
President Aliyev expressed his opinion about the Armenia’s thesis on self-determination right of the peoples. “Regarding the Armenia’s thesis about the self-determination right of the peoples, I would like to note that the Armenian people already determined its fate. Armenia is an independent country and of course, the problem could be solved only on the basis of the principle of territorial integrity”.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad emphasized that Azerbaijan’s position in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict based on the international law. “The problems should be resolved as soon as possible that to be useful, because the problems are like chronic disease. Its prolongation makes its solution more difficult. It is necessary to treat diseases and to find soonest solution of the problems. Syria also could have a great role in this process. Syria has good relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Syria can make its contribution to the solution of this problem”.
